Description Yet another one of my drawings I've been trying to finish for over the past month and now getting done.

Ya....I don't know. I felt like nuts and bolts...and gears. Lots of gears. Clockworks is his name.

Let's just say it's from a creepy dream I had.

HB pencil, 4HB and pencil crayons for colors.

The mechanical aspects of this piece is quite interesting, something unique and different. The shading and overall placement makes it seem realistic and a tad ironic. Definitely worth a favorite.

thanks for the comment. I enjoyed drawing this out. It's a bit on the creepy side to tell you the truth...but I like creepy things.

I like it because it plays on the idea that humans are machines, and we try to give machines (robots if you will) human qualities. Clockworks just looks a bit like a human, but still a machine.

True, it's a bit creepy, but I did get some of the same ideas as you did about its significance except that I was thinking further into the "clockworks of the human body, and each part fueling the other". I suppose that it can have multiple meanings from different perspectives, but the theme is still the same.

Hmm...

"...the slow, crisp, click of polished brass gears, the sensual hiss of pneumatic release, the insidious sibilance and decisive thud of a withdrawing and thrusting piston..."

Yep, that's what it reminds me of. That passage from m' book! Damn them turning gears...

Jc2theW In reply to ThePeeves [2006-10-08 21:50:46 +0000 UTC]

Wow that sounds really amazing! I pictured it perfectly in my head.

You write books? I'm trying to write my own as well... slowly...but getting there. I have all the storylines and characters, just haven't really put them down on paper.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThePeeves In reply to Jc2theW [2006-10-08 23:43:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that passage wasn't from a story of mine, sorry for the confusion. It's actually from my favourite book, The Muzic of Razors - but the reason I like the book so much is because it's exactly like the kind of story I'd write.
But I do write...sometimes...like you, I have the characters and their histories, just need to flesh the story out a little...

AAAAnd I have a question. Are pencil crayons easy to use? What are they, anyway? They look like fun....

Jc2theW In reply to DodgerThirteen [2006-07-22 16:14:14 +0000 UTC]

Pencil crayons are very easy to use. I enjoy them very much!! Um... they are like regular pencils, but with an explosion of different colors. Hence why they are called pencil crayons. Some can be more pastel-like, more watercolor type, more sketchy type. it depends on what type you buy!

DodgerThirteen In reply to Jc2theW [2006-07-22 17:02:01 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to see where I can get some, or at least try them. They give the pictures a nice texture, from what I've seen of your works.
Thanks!

Beautiful, its the kind of thing that I love, I have an addiction to gears and clockwork. The execution is excellent as is the composition. But P.C art ain't easy and fast, its just another tool to add to your skill set. Anyway, great work, its good to see some originality put into organic robots, they all look like ipods to me!
