Description Just some minutes later than on the shot which I submitted two days ago, the sun had fully sent its beams into the forest at Lage Vuursche/The Netherlands on that splendid October morning.

hey there,
i'm painting this, and i have a few questions:
1. if the light is strong, why is there no highlight on the trees?
2. why is the forest floor red? are those the fallen leaves from the tree?

thank you, your answer will help me in better painting this as an oil painting.

Good luck!

Here the answers:

1) The light was coming from the front, otherwise you never see the haze like this. So there just was not direct sunlight on the trees as seen from my position.
A wider view of the same scene, this time taking it all over, is here:

This shot is somewhere on devArt too, but I just find it easier now to undig the Redbubble version.
2) The red stuff on the ground are indeed fallen beech-leaves, the first to have fallen that autumn, mixed with some from the year before.

1. if the light comes from the back, there is not even a tiny bit of highlight on the trees? as they are round i mean, so naturally there should be light on the rims.
2. i painted red on the canvas and it looks a bit weird, but i guess it'll be better when i'm done adding the leaves.

thanks!

Ad 1: There was no direct light from the sun on my side of the trees immediately in front of me at all, as the sunlight was coming straight from the front or just came into the scene in these beams (otherwise you would see no beams). There was only sunlight where there were beams. The rest of the sunlight was blocked by trees or branches. I hope you understand my rather clumpsy English here.

Ad 2: the colour is a brownish red or reddish brown, somewhat overaccentuated by the high saturation of the camera. I would not paint it red, but rather brownish with a touch of red in it. But that is just my humble suggestion.

Good luck again.
