You would be fully awake very soon, I fear. Great that you like(d) it.

Yes, I wonder too how it will be there in winter, or even during strong autumnal or spring storms.

All right!!! I guess islands can't get smaller than this.
I hope it was high tide when this one was taken.

I deeply wonder: Do they have a tidal difference up there at all. All their places were completely unprotected, lying direct at the fjords.

This makes a beautiful image but I would certainly be worried about rising sea levels. It wouldn't take much the house to be uninhabitable. Ah....I worry too much.

I wonder which place is more dangerous to live/stay at? Probably the Halligen. Here in Norway they do not seem to worry about rising water levels.

Yes, I like it too when people from somewhere far away take pictures here. It is always fascinating what people find interesting.
One question actually, and I hope you will know. What about tidal differences in Norway? I saw no dykes, the houses stood so close to the water as if they were at a lake where no floods ever threatened. Is there no tidal difference between ebb and flood in the Hardangerfjord, just to take this one?

Many thanks in advance.

Tushle In reply to jchanders [2007-11-12 22:49:55 +0000 UTC]

Yes ofc there is, but not a very big difference because the fjord is so large that the house as the end and doesn't notice very much difference
Think thats the right answer

hope it helped at least for a bit ^^

Hi Victoria,

Thanks a lot for the info. In the meantime I found a Norwegian site about tides. The difference at Bergen is about 1 m normally. So that is not much. But there was also a remarkable list of floods in the past years, with pictures of flooded quays. In such a case I would not like to stay on this island, I must say.

Keep your feet dry ... and warm.

I wish we could once still go up as far as Trondheim. But that is quite a long way for someone who does not really like driving long distances.

Take care with the winter! We got nightfrost now, too, but the days have been fine for two days. So I could make quite a number of nice shots.
