Description With AmsterdamΒ΄s central airport Schiphol being so near, there are nearly always condensation trails on the skies. Yesterday evening you got this particular crossing pattern on a colourful after-sunset sky.

The cross looks very nice. I like to look at the sky, the clouds, the stripes, the stars! Yesterday we had a wonderful sunset!!!! You can see that at this picture too! Love the red and purple colours!

btw, in this case, as the grain is mainly visible on the blue sky, you could get rid of it in Photoshop:

1)use the "dust-scratches" filter over the whole image (the trees will blurr out badly, but that is ok in this step)
2)create a "snapshot" in the actions window
3)undo the last action (the one with the filter) so the image looks just like at the beginning again.
4)set the history brush source in the little square next to the snapshot you took (in the actions window)
5)choose the history brush-tool(protokoll-pinsel) and paint the sky with it, being careful not to touch the trees. depending on how strongly you set the filter in step 1), you might want to use the brush at only 50% intensity or so.

this technique requires a bit of practice, but it's a great way to apply filters selectively to parts of the image.

It is great that you spend so much effort on an old man! But dear me, I have only the PS-version for beginners, ie. the automatic one. And I just know my way for a few things. And now you come with this difficult description! It sounds ok, but dear me, I will never be able to do it!
Give it up, man! Just take me as I am. With a little bit of grain at times!
But still: many thanks for trying!

hehe, no worries, it's very respectable to renounce all digital modification of your shots, just pretend you could master photoshop easely, but you choose not to do so in order to retain the purity of your art

Yes, that is the good approach! If only I could manage the pretending bit, too!

woa, another great shot. I love the colors, the precise silhouettes of the trees and the crossing ... what were they called again ... ah yes, condensation trails

I wonder why there is so much grain on the sky here - ISO speed is only 200 so my guess is that you tweaked the contrast - colors or so a bit in PS and that's where the grain is from... Or maybe we both need a new camera with a better sensor

Great you like the shot.
As to the grain, I fear it must be the sensor of my camera. It does not go any further than 200, and this is what you get (on this and many other pics). In any case I did no PSing at all this time!

yea, mine has only ISO 100 and a correction feature, while a the new DSLRs can go up to 1600 ISO !! With a lot of grain I would guess though... The grain in high ISO is also what keeps me to simply buy one of the older DSLRs like the Sigma D10, they are of course much cheaper now and still quite cool, but the first generation sensors have a lot of grain and I love to shoot in low light.

Well, you see as long as I shoot just for fun I do not mind a bit of graininess. It need not be perfect this way! You see, if someone offered me a contract! Things would be different, of course! But there does not seem anyone around anywhere ... ???
And you will realize that a DSLR of that newer sort is a bit out of my financial range! Unless: the contract ...
