Description With undeniable sadness I must report to you today that the dead old oak-tree trump that several times has appeared on this gallery, was finally thrown over by last weekยดs storm.
Taken near Maartensdijk/The Netherlands.

Your welcome

My avatar (on my other page) is also a tree that once was but no more though ours was burnt down.

Thus the cycle of life begins again. There will be another grand tree in it's place someday. You have my sympathies for losing and old friend.

I hate to see this happened to the old oak!!!! It really makes me feel sad!! I was just going to ask you where about I could find this tree in the surroundings of Maartensdijk. Too late!!!
Really saaaaaad. How many people would have taken pictures of it, or just enjoyed the look of it.
Although it's sad, it's a wonderful capture!! A last farewell.........

Many thanks for so much understanding. Yes, you can only see the fallen trunk by now. There are two oak-trees on both sides actually, that are still alive. It was a fabulous threesome.

It's such a waste that the wind blew it down!!!

This would make an interesting study with, all the images before the fall you could follow up with more images of it moulding and decaying to become part of the soil again.

Could also take a realy long term view and plant a new tree in the compost of the old one. Give a litle rebirth to tis death.

Yes, I have some few shots left in my collection. But at the moment it is enough now. - As to a new tree at that place, I do not know what the intentions of the farmer are. It might be an idea to plant a new tree secretly.

It's always so sad when trees fall. Especially if they are special. Though it was dead already...

jchanders In reply to haapapuu [2007-01-26 13:57:48 +0000 UTC]

You are right. But dead trees like this one have a majestic character of their own, I find.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

haapapuu In reply to jchanders [2007-01-26 20:39:14 +0000 UTC]

And hopefully that character will fall down to a another tree which shall someday stand on that field with a similar majestity.

haapapuu In reply to jchanders [2007-01-30 18:59:17 +0000 UTC]

Truly sad - Even in death though, this tree is magestic. Just think that it new life as a home for small animals and insects is just begining. Condolences on the loss of a friend.

Goodbye to a fabulous friend I guess - it's good to know you have many pictures of it before it came to this dreadful mess ... take a piece of it as a keepsake.

Sad times

Oh Jurgen, what an awful sight. Mine stood up to the wind just fine tho theres no end of bits of it in the field now, carried some distance on the wind.
I'm so sad to see this, your tree looked so much like mine and it was so nice to compare the two, wasn't it?
I know just what you mean "it was something of an old friend".

jchanders In reply to AlicesPlace [2007-01-23 14:34:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it was quite a shock when I turned round the corner of the lane leading towards this field. "NO!", I thought! "NOT THIS ONE TOO!"
