Description
More than a thousand years ago, this fjord in Schleswig-Holstein, today called the "Schlei", was a much-used traffic route. While at its western end lay "Hedeby" (or "Haithabu"), with its more than 1000 inhabitants an important Viking town), on the eastern side the Baltic Sea opened the routes to various places in Scandinavia and other coastal areas of this sea. Just imagine those Viking boats with their characteristic sails on this piece of water. This is an old shot from October 2005, reframed and slightly recropped, which I resubmit as quite a few of you will not have seen it and I like it very much myself. Perhaps it is that wonderful landscape of Eastern Schleswig-Holstein which attracts my longing - after all I grew up there. And all those historical memories just stimulate my imagination. Perhaps yours too ...
