Beautiful shot! I admire the depth of the water.. its different layers.. and its contrast with the bright dry leaf.. So simple and yet so elegant and rich composition! goes to !

I am so glad you like this one! Not everyone sees the beauty of it, but you have a very good sense of it and have expressed it very nicely!

There is an interesting difference between photography and painting that I have become aware of in my practice of the two. Namely: in photography you look for things that are well composited, have good lighting, etc. Basically, you try to find places in the real world that look like paintings.

In painting the light and composition are easy: what is hard is getting all the niggly (that's a word I just made up: means small and annoying) details just right so they trick the eye into seeing, not random blobs of color, but an actual thing, place, or person.

This is why it is such a compliment to say a painting looks like photograph, but I think it also means it is equally complimentary to say a photograph looks like a painting...

Which is what all this ramble is for: I'm trying to say this picture looks like a painting. It's simplicity, and the way the leaf is bright and dry next to the dark wet water, and the gentle play of light on its surface.

All marks of a great painting: and something I know for a fact you can't always capture in real life.

Thank you very much indeed for this wonderful comment! I am very glad you show such a good understanding of the difficulties of such a "simple" picture. It took me about 30 shots, on two separate days, to get this one. Indeed, real life is not often like a painting. I consider it a great praise that you find that this picture has all the marks of a great painting!

Yay! I'm glad you were able to muddle your way through my comment... I got a little carried away.

I don't do much photography myself, but I've done enough to know just how much work it can be!

You are very welcome!

Never mind about being carried away. We all are from time to time. I find it much more important that you reacted with so much interest and enthusiasm! Especially as this picture is one for the people who look a bit further or rather deeper than just the lanes etc.
