very nice lone tree, and a good balance to the shot, with the light spot of sun behind the clouds...and not overexposed, very good

Lovely shot...
This is kind of like one of my own shots...Found HERE ..
Again the mist and pastel tones are so pleasing and soothing to the eye..

I am glad you like this shot, too. Yes, I suppose you get these scenes quite often in Britain, too.

The one tree. Its almost eerie the way you have captured this and the framing gives it justice. Well done

Yes, it was quite a ghostly atmosphere on the heath that morning. Actually I hoped the sun would break through, but it did not!

It made a valiant attempt. Nice composition, although a bit minimal for my taste.

Sometimes I try to get this minimal type of shot. But you know very well that I also try to vary my stuff.

A good variety is the best approach, and I strive to do the same.

Yes, I even look what I submitted last. I also look at the gallery now as a whole to see whether pictures fit. It may appear excessive, but I find that the galleries are a project as a whole, too (I am still hesitant to call it a piece of art, as you see).

I forgot to mention - I would say that your photography is definitely art. All one has to do is look around at all of the poor photography on dA to see that you are gifted with the camera.

Just to add. It is very nice you keep supporting and encouraging me! I appreciate that very much. So I also appreciate very much that you call be gifted. But an artist, that remains something much "higher" for me. Perhaps it is a matter of definition, really.

I don't think basic "snapshot" photography is an art. Anyone with eyesight can point an automatic camera at an object and press the shutter. It only begins to become art when you take the time to think about your composition and lighting. A true photographer is someone who paints with light - the camera is just a tool for doing that. I think it's also important to use and understand the manual settings on your camera, even just controlling the aperture, instead of letting the camera do everything for you. Even more artistic possibilities open with controlling shutter speed and doing long exposures.
At the same time, photography is just as much of a science as it is an art. Just like with painting, a basic understanding of colour theory comes in handy. Of course, there is also the technical side - understanding how the camera produces an image, and learning how the use the various features.
If art is about abstract visualization, then good photography can definitely be called an art.

I find this very interesting ideas. Perhaps we should have an open discussion via a journal or one of the informative questions (I just forget what they are called).
I very much agree to the difference between snapshots and serious photography. There is indeed a lot of terrible stuff submitted to DA! One just asks oneself how people can do this! But then there are the jewels again.
As to producing art myself, I still think that I do not do that. I try to do GOOD nature photography. That is all there is to it. If I work on the pictures, it is minimal, just the border, the format, perhaps some enlargement or cropping. I hate candy colours and have little liking for reworked stuff that gives an "artificial" effect. No, real good nature photography, that is it! And that is quite something, I find.
