Definitely a Meripilus giganteus (or Grifola gigantea) (in Dutch: reuzenzwam)
I once saw a specimen of more than 1 meter large.

Such a clear and detailed photograph. Love the way the stalk of grass is pushing its way through. Very well done.

It is funny that that stalk of grass nearly kept me from submitting the shot. Thought: Bah, why had I not torn it out?! But I was so enthousiastic about the fungus that I just had overlooked that grass stalk at the time.
And now: yes, you are right, it makes it a more natural shot. But do believe me: I did not put it there!

'Grifola gigantea'. Used to be called 'Polyporus giganteus'. Serious problem fungii for Beech and nearly always found at the base! Very good photo - text book quality!

Yes, fungi are a speciality! I would never dare to eat one, unless I really know what it is. And these are not for eating!
Once again many thanks for the fav!
