Description
When I took this shot last autumn at the cliff at Schilksee at the Kiel Fjord ("Kieler FΓΆrde"), this tree was standing so close to the edge that one had to fear it would go down in the winter. It has survived into this summer, though, but will it stand another winter?Related content

A lovely capture... & if it doesn't survive, then you have a pic' that will be worth keeping in it's honour.
They do say that a trees roots are as wide as it is tall... so i think it will be there for many years yet, it looks like a baby

No, just a year or so, perhaps two. The cliff is going back pretty fast, and it will topple over, as did its forerunners ...

There are so very many lonely trees in Britain, as far as I recall. Have they all gone?

Oh no ! It's just that here in Wales we have plenty but very few single ones

We have to accept that it will not. Its brothers died in the winters before, and this one is on the edge. One or at best two more winters and it will be gone. A great pity, but that is what a living cliff coast is like!

I dare not expect it for another winter, unless it is a very stormless one. But as the weather was rather extreme this summer, we are probably in for some sort of heavy winter period. If there are storms from the north-east, then the Baltic Sea throws its full power against this cliff, and 1 or even 2 meters are lost in a winter.

Its much the same on our east coast here, great chunks of cliffs are lost to the sea...
