Description
A shot from last autumn, taken near EckernfΓΆrde/Germany. These beech-trees stand on the top ridge of an old cliff and had to develop extra-strong roots in order not to be blown down the cliff.Related content

Going down the cliff is indeed pretty tricky. So rather keep to the paths!

Nice shot, I like it when roots stick out the side of a hill.

Thank you very much for all your lovely comments and the favs. Yes, I love such hills too. Unfortunately there are none here in surroundings.

This is an imaginative reaction, I guess, but I stay bewildered: what do you mean by "ents"?

Many thanks for the info. I hardly dare admit that I am no Tolkien fan, but things are as they are, I am afraid.

Well, as some say, we learn through the whole life
It's not a shame not to know some things, so don't worry
Now you know what I was talking about

Great photo...I love these trees, and my street is named after them. However, the trees lining my street are black honey locust...go figure. Hope you have a great Easter break.

Great you like the shot. Yes, beech-trees are wonderful trees!
Many thanks for your good wishes. Have a good Easter time, too! I am still pretty shaky, but we shall see ...

Heh, this is a common sight in the nearest mountain range (Vitosha , Bulgaria). I have always loved the way it goes: Trees holding on to the soil, and in this way, preventing the soil from erosion.

Yes, it is a beautiful sight. Less common in Schleswig-Holstein or even more so here in the Netherlands, however, as the countryside is mainly flat.
