The Black Cowsยดs Cliff, or rather the "Falaises des Vaches Noires", are situated near Houlgate on the coast of Lower Normandy. We found them very impressive and like them better than those limestone walls in Higher Normandy, because they are much more interesting geologically. And you can at least walk on the beach without fearing to have a stone falling on your head at any moment.Related content

this shots has unusual colors for you, almost no green, very sharp and edgy, unusual, but good. These cliffs are indeed impressive

Yes, it is a most particuly formation! The trees will be green by now, though. April gave it that special "ungreen" look.

I really like the colours and composition of this. Can feel the sand between my toes as I sit on one of the rocks. Very nicely done.

They are desolate. You are not allowed to climb in them. Very precarious as there may always be slips.

When I was a kid I loved to climb rocks at the seaside. But not anymore. So I like the look of them!

As to the name: they say that the dark rock pieces that had fallen from the cliff, being black, on the bright sand beach did look like black cows, when watched from the sea. That is given as reason for the name.
