Splendid. This could be taken in my backyard. I have some pollard-willows too on the border of my garden. We call them 'knotwilgen'. They are a refuge for lots of plants and animals, especially the little owl (Athene noctua).

I am glad you like the shot. Yes, 'knotwilgen', I learnt to love them here!

Oh yes I love the shot!

here: does this mean in Normandy or in the Netherlands?

This actually means here in the Netherlands. Do not forget that I am a newcomer here (well, thirty years ago).

Let me guess. You're coming from Norway?

Wrong. Try again.

Germany? (According to your first name)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jchanders In reply to SmoothEyes [2006-05-21 02:02:21 +0000 UTC]

YES! The name is a good help, you are quite right! Well, you might have guessed from my Sleswig-Holstein pictures that I come from up there. Grew up at Kiel. Was actually born is Eastern Prussia ... So it was a long way that took me to the WEST.

SmoothEyes In reply to jchanders [2006-05-21 11:44:17 +0000 UTC]

Well my first guess was simple intuition. (But my intuition isn't working well )

My second guess was based upon remembering you mentioning somewhere the name of Kiel. (and your first name of course, however that could have been Belgian too)

I did not know that JΓΌrgen was in use in Belgium too. So I learnt something again. We keep learning ... !

These willow are called 'pollared' here in England. Very traditional silviculture and Normandy landscape.

Once again a new word. I try to keep up ...

angelpeak In reply to jchanders [2006-05-14 17:18:24 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, just noticed what I had written and spelt wrong! The word is 'pollard' and is the business of cutting back the branches at stem height. When they are cut at stump height it is then 'coppice' which I think you are familiar with!

jchanders In reply to angelpeak [2006-05-15 19:03:43 +0000 UTC]

'Coppice' is new, too. So I keep learning! Many thanks for the info once again.

Vind deze mooier dan de andere treelines in je gallery, ander formaatje geeft de compositie wel iets extra!

Ook al reageer ik wat laat: ik zie je standpunt. Inderdaad is deze foto meer speciaal.

Nice picture. Maybe the border would look better if you expanded it to the sides too. Or maybe you'd better leave out the whole border. But that's just my humble opinion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jchanders In reply to BrotherJeroen [2006-04-28 13:07:47 +0000 UTC]

I always change the borders from time to time. No borders give me the idea of the picture not being presented with the care it deserves. But indeed opinions on borders vary very much, as I have learned.

They look very nice, and so organized. I'm not organized at all, maybe that's why I love lined up things like these trees!

Interesting trees. What are they?

jchanders In reply to Porterish [2006-04-28 13:04:42 +0000 UTC]

They are willow trees that have been cut back regularly.
