Description Quite a bit of logging was done in the past weeks near Lage Vuursche/The Netherlands. When I see the trunks of these majestic 50 to 70 year old fir-trees, I can help feeling very sad, I must adit.

I agree.  I went for a walk today and was dismayed to see that many of the trees on a trail I walk were cut down.  I'm not sure why.

I get very emotional over trees being cut down.  I'll actually call my husband at work (he just recently retired) and tell him about one of our neighbors cutting a tree down.  I know, I'm obssessed.

A wood turners paradise - but only if the tree's needed to be felled for new!

I fear that the economic impetus was first. There is no replanting here, but just natural regrowth which takes a bit longer, I fear.

Wildlife is always something that needs years of planning and thought!

There is a way of allowing open bit to regrow naturally here too. What comes up, comes up.

We have a lake nearby with many trees around it. They've got down some very old tress on a whole part of the lakeside. Found out the reason was, that they wanted to have a clear sight on the lake for the new flats they've build far away from the lake...
Now they want to clear the whole riverbank of a small river nearby my flat. They want to create room for people to bathe and relax. It's a very important habitat for critters and birds. Everyone that lives here is against it. We made a petition but they don't listen. This makes me so angry and sad. Nowadays, they totally overdo it. People don't respect anymore how long it took for this trees to grow. ):

It is sad. Even with replanting it takes so many years for them to grow.

And some of these trees are so beautiful! Fortunately they only take out some of them, but at certain places even this is a real loss.

I am glad to hear that!!!
still a loss as you say but hope they plant as many as they cut!

Actually in most places they leave the regrowth to nature here these days, as they no longer want the monotony of pure fir forests. It makes the waiting all the longer, however.
