Description
To our great surprise I discovered a bright yellow field in Aberdeenshire last week, i.e. in mid-July. It was a lovely sight, and the old tree added to the scene.But the question remains for me: which plant was grown there. My guess is mustard.

Thanks a lot. Yes, I first thought it was rapeseed, but it certainly is not, though from a distance it very much looks like it. This was confirmed by a local source, but unfortunately he could not tell me what it was.

If you try to look closely, you will indeed see that the plant is different from the rapeseed plant.
So indeed it will remain a mystery ...

Juergen, I Googled images for 'rapeseed plant' and then 'mustard plant' ~ they are both yellow and INCREDIBLY SIMILAR, so it most probably is mustard seed! Both very beautiful when viewed as a field, and both grown extensively in Scotland.
