Description
Clone Commando Thermite was a clone commando, who was designated as second-in-command of a four-team squad of commandos, who would colloquially be known, as Onyx Squad. Thermite was commissioned as a heavy explosive expert before joining the 501st Legion, helping his squad leader Yeager in leading Onyx Squad into many combat situations, softening Separatists fortifications and battle lines, before the primary 501st units came in, led by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain Rex. Because Onyx Squad's actions and individual skills would impress both Skywalker and Rex, to the point that they would have Yeager promoted to the rank of captain, and gave Onyx Squad autonomy, in regards to how they operated in combat. Nevertheless, Thermite and Onyx Squad continued to be connected with the 501st, and thus he and his squad mates were able to overcome a lot of the animosity that existed between standard clone troopers and clone commandos.
Thermite and his squad, consisting of his commanding officer Yeager, the team slicer Hesh, and the squad sharpshooter Dante, would take part in the many battles that the 501st were involved in. The skills of Thermite and Onyx Squad would range from sabotage, covert operations, assassinations, and such; however, the one unique aspect of Yeager and the rest of Onyx Squad, is that they, like their fellow commando squads: Alpha Squad and Dragon Squad of the 101st Legion and 82nd Attack Battalion respectively, were able to adapt and serve as a front line unit, and fight alongside their standard clone brothers, as well as serve as a heavy assault unit. Thermite credited Yeager being responsible for making this happen, which made Onyx Squad's ability to mesh with the rest of the 501st Legion easy, especially after Anakin and Captain Rex were impressed by Onyx Squad, and asked them to join the 501st, becoming a combination of a special force/heavy assault unit.
Throughout the Clone War, Thermite and Onyx Squad continued to serve in the 501st, and throughout every battle, the loyalty of Thermite towards Anakin Skywalker and his apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, and indirectly the Jedi, continued to grow. This sense of loyalty proved to be strong enough that when Order 66 was initiated, Thermite and the rest of Onyx Squad chose their loyalty to the Jedi, over executing them. As they were on Coruscant at the time of the issuing of Order 66, Thermite and Onyx Squad joined in the defense of the Jedi Temple, holding off the imperialist clones, as they tried to breach the Temple gates. Eventually, the time for Thermite and Onyx Squad to fall back as well came, and the group of four commandos was able to escape from the Jedi Temple and made their way to the Venator Attack Battleship Bismarck.
After getting aboard the Bismarck, Thermite met up with the rest of the 501st Loyalists, among which included Clone Major Bow (who had received the promotion from Sergeant after Captain Rex was promoted to Commander), ARC Captains Price and Soap of Task Force 141, the ARC members of Task Force 57, and others. When it was learned that Anakin's pregnant wife, Padme Amidala, was captured by Imperialist clones of the Coruscant Guard and taken to the planet Mustafar, Thermite, and Onyx Squad were quick to volunteer in helping their Jedi General get his wife back. Although the fighting was difficult, because Thermite and his squad were forced to shoot and kill imperialist clones of the Coruscant Guard, Thermite and Yeager still pushed Onyx Squad forward, as they secured Padme, and returned her to Anakin. Just as it seemed that hope was lost, Thermite and the rest of Onyx Squad, along with Anakin, Padme, Bow, and the rest of the Jedi Loyal 501st clones were saved by Ahsoka, the 332nd clones, and surprisingly female clones.
After the female clones rescued Thermite and the others from Mustafar, Onyx Squad would join in the exile exodus to the secret Jedi planet Ossus. In the following years after Order 66, Thermite and Yeager continued to lead Onyx Squad, and serve as part of the 501st Legion, fighting for the Jedi Loyalists Forces, and then the Amidala Empire. Thermite and Yeager would lead Onyx Squad through many operations, such as joining with the Rogue One team to infiltrate the Imperial Data Vault on Scarif, to acquire the Death Star plans. After surviving and escaping the Battle of Scarif, Thermite and Onyx Squad would go on to continue fighting the Galactic Empire, from the Battle of Yavin IV and the destruction of the Death Star I, all the way to the Battle of Endor, witnessing the destruction of the Death Star II, and the subsequent death of Emperor Palpatine.
