The day after my 18th Birthday (25/08/07) will mark two years of me working at the zoo here in Canberra.
For the last year I have worked as the photographer for the zoo being paid to shoot people feeding animals and unpaid shooting the animals for things like postcards/magnets/the website.. for a further 6months before that I had already been taking photos of the animals.
This is a (relatively) random selection of the pics that I like most that I have taken over the two years, and trust me this is only 1/4 of the 'keepers.'

I know, they're one of my favorite animals! About how big are they? I've only ever seen one from a raised walkway and it was trying to hide.

this one was the length of a smallish cat..full sized they can get as long as a cat and a lot bigger arround.. they are just big pieces of muscle lol heavy buggers too

nah not at all... they wouldn't occur in the wild, but in captivity there have been a few... we had two, but the female died of old age (like 24
thing is, it is illegal to breed them in Australia and i think in most other countries too..

his name is Asta... he is the product of a male tiger and a female lion that were kept together in a circus..

I've noticed that there aren't very many male names that end with an 'a'. The only ones I can think of are 'Asa' and 'Dana.'

i'm sad to say that it is the lense that gets the shallow depth of field (aka dof).. a wide apature lense makes the depth of field narrow.. so everything but what you focus on, is blurry

What a gorgeous assortment my fridn! How lucky you are to be able to photograph these at your workplace. All i get to take photos of at work are my crazy workmates and of customers, to show off cameras. BORING!
