oh and since ive asked, i suggest you consider sticking a ruler or pencil or whatever in the pics you take so we get a general idea of the size of your lil critters

Thanks, he is approximately 15cm/6inches long. I like your suggestion of photographing with a ruler, thanks. Perhaps some kind of police-photograph-style measuring chart would be appropriate.
