Description
I really cannot paint clouds very well so I decided to practice a bit. The tutorial itself shows the painting of smoke but its the same technique. I figured that I would save out steps as I worked and compile it into a tutorial in the end. Its a little rushed and messy, but I believe it gets the point across without turning into a hand-holding exercise.Oh yeah... and in case you can't view it online, here's my tutorial page:

Enjoy!

Yes, I plan on making more - especially as long as people enjoy them. ^_^ I was thinking my next tutorial might be on painting fire.

Tutorial of painting fire or some kind of lighting effects would be nice.

What excellent technique. Hopefully I can make good use of it in future works. Plus it's good to see something other than anime colouring tuts in this category.

Nice effect mate. It would help me tremendously if I could actually do things like that I'm not too talented you see
BTW the volcano was top quality. I personally thought it was better than the smoke itself

Definitelly going to come in handy. I have yet to tackle landscapes and it is something I really want to do, and this is a nice part of it. Thanks!!

... exceptional tutorial... it's always helpful to look at the step-by-step procedures in painting to help get values and contours to look just right; clouds have always been a problem for me, and you make it look so easy... thanks for submitting this!

took a quick look at the pictures and they would be great for a background, another thing would be to make many smaller clouds, put them together and they maybe add a drop shadow to each, in order to create some depth. not that i tried, but it sounds interesting
