This is what happened when they made Zootopia. (No offence to the movie but the fandom was shit.)

You have a lot of Mickey Mouse in your gallery.

Perhaps you should hold your own sort of caption contest where people try to provide stories for your art! There doesn't have to be a prize but it just seems like a really fun idea! I'd love to see how different people see the same thing!

It's interesting to see what people read into this when you don't provide a narrative.Β

It sure has been. I vividly remember seeing a small print of "The Persistence of Memory" as a kid, and the almost photographic realisation of an otherworldly scene really fired my imagination. I only learned about the artist, his apparent inspiration, and surrealism many years later. A lot of my favourite art doesn't really need an explanation - the sense of wonder, awe and mystery it inspires is enough. A lot of my least favourite inspires no such feelings but comes with reams of condescending wall text. I'd rather encourage people to think their own thoughts and dream their own dreams, and my own words and images are just meant to be a starting point!

I usually have some kind of basic mental story when I'm working on something complex - it helps me come up with ideas - but I'm always intrigued to see what people read into a piece. One thing about my husband, back when we were just friends, he always surprised and impressed me with how accurately he could tell what I was thinking when I was designing a painting.Β

I usually also start with a story and add it if it's strong enough. It's also been inspiring to read other people's descriptions and stories, even when they're very different to anything I had in mind.
You must share a great rapport with your husband. I feel lucky just to haveΒ a partner who accepts the fact I like to draw!

He's on par with Hello Kitty - not my favourite character but not really offensive either. I just like less cute/more creepy takes on both!

Ah, I see.
I also thought that it was a jab at the Disney corporation's business practices. I could understand that, though.

Nothing really. Its founder was a bit messed up - for a more critical account than most, try Marc Eliot's "Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince" - but he was also a great visionary who brought a lot of talented people together including Milt Kahl, one of my favourite classic animators. At one stage I resented the way Disney's success made many Westerners think animationΒ had to meanΒ Disney or at least a Disney imitation; I thought Don Bluth (The Secret of Nimh) had the talent but not theΒ vision toΒ createΒ very different masterpiecesΒ while Ralph Bakshi (Fire and Ice) had the vision but not the talent. When I first encountered anime I appreciated the mix of more mature themes and high-quality animation, though there's good and bad in this genre as well and the good has gone on to influence others. I've certainly enjoyed the Disney/Pixar films I've seen.
Some people are bound to see this as an anti-Disney pic (or see it as anti-corporate, anti-USA, blah blah, etc) but in truth I'm just having fun.
