Description
A number of people have noted me about my thought processes and stages that I do for one my paintings. So I thought I would try and show everyone here what kind of things I do and think about when I paint some fan art. I'm using my latest Clara Oswald painting as an example rather than noted people back separately. So here goes...1. Originally this was going to be just a portrait of Clara Oswald, as I love painting faces. It was going to be titled 'The Look of Love' and I wanted to paint her love for the Doctor.
2. After I was happy with her face, I pondered about her hair style but decided to give her a modern sexy look.
3. Now after doing her hair, I do what I do quite a lot and that is to completely change my initial plan and so decided to add her body. I've done a lot of life during college and do a lot of superheroes before so I just added a simple stance for her.
4. Then I dressed her by blocking in a typical type of top and tights that she normally wears.
5. This was one of the dresses that I want to give her but changed my mind.
6. Decided to give her the famous chequered top so I had to do the strips. I done this just by a long block of paint, then painted on top of that a thinner line of paint and so on. When I got one strip to my liking, I just duplicated it one way, then rotated it to give the chequered effect.
7. Then I erased the bits of strips that when over the dress.
8. I was in two minds about the background, this was the first one as I just wanted a simple one to highlight Clara and her figure. With the light behind her, I made her front darker.
9. The other background was the Tardis, with her walking out with the bright light and smoke. This was the one I decided on eventually. So after tidying everything up with the colours, brightness and contrast the painting was ready to post.
I'm sorry this doesn't show what brushes I used, how many layers, textures or even how much flow I use with the brushes and so on. I just wanted to reply to the questions that some of you have asked and I hope some of you have found this interesting.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

If i'm reading this right, the hairstyle you chose was something of a guess and you ended up with something that isn't too far off what she sported in Series 9. Good guess!

You are indeed 100% correct. I wanted to give her a style that she hasn't had yet because I wanted to paint something that you cannot find anywhere on the net or on any photos, and thank you for commenting
