NaArMaMo 2008, Day 3: CyberController

Doctor Who fan art featuring The CyberController from the series 2 episode Age Of Steel.

This is a tweaked version of my third piece for this year's (Inter)National Art Making Month, in which you create a new piece of art every day in August.

This was drawn on a tablet PC using a variable width brush for the lines and the airbrush tool for the colouring. Total time spent approximately 4.5 hours, 30 minutes of which was the original sketch, and 30 minutes was spent on additional colouring work after the NaArMaMo deadline had passed.

I actually drew a very rough sketch thinking I was going to airbrush over it, then decided to colour under it. As a result at least 2 hours was spent just cleaning up the sketch lines and relatively little time was spent on the colouring.

The additional 30 minutes spent after the deadline were used to add more shading and highlighting to the body and to bring out more reflections of the blue and purple in the background in the image as a whole.

Considering how bad the sketch looked originally, I think it's turned out pretty well.
