Description I put this composite together to illustrate the process of creating an HDR Image. [link]

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography is very useful when recording images where the dynamic range (highlights and shadows or contrast) exceeds the camera's ability to capture the scene without sacrificing some aspect of the image.

As you can see from this somewhat extreme example, none of the exposures 1 though 9 are sufficient to render the final image as the human eye sees it.

You would have to choose between capturing shadow detail at the expense of completely blown out highlights or excessive noise, or vice versa.

This bracketed sequence uses 9 RAW exposures separated by 1 EV at a constant f-stop. It can be done with as few as 3 separated by at least 2 EV.

The Download link is enabled but this is a large file and will take some time to transmit.

Good tutorial. What does "EV" stand for?

Thanks very much.

EV stands for "Exposure Value" [link] , commonly used as shorthand for F-stop.

Ah, interesting. I think this illustrates very nicely just what HDR is and does. Well put.

Thank you very much.

I'm glad someone looked at it.
Makes my 2 hours putting it together well worth it
