Description When ~VividIllustrator asked if I wanted to do an art trade, I jumped up and down in my seat. She's an incredibly gifted artist and a major inspiration to me!

When she gave me her character, my mouth dropped. haha. This is Kitsune! She's a woodland elf of the moon and a very complex character who has a dark and difficult past.

I put everything I have into this one and it's been great fun!
I hope you like it Vivid!

It's very beautiful. I'm curious; did you use reference for this? I mean - the subtle detailing is breathtaking. I just don't understand how some people do it. And I also have to ask you this; how did you manage that minuscule knot-work design on the cloth?

Thank you very much! No, I didn't use a reference for this, hehe. I actually did about five sketches before I found something I really liked. It's a lot of practice, I think. I'm still not where I want to be, especially with backgrounds and environments.

I didn't actually take screen shots during the painting process since I wasn't planning on doing a tutorial or anything with it, but I went back and turned some layers on and off and you can sort of see a bit of the process:

I always start with just flat colors then work base shading and then add lighting and effects last. And the knot work is not actually all that neat or complex it's just that the original image was HUGE (10,000 pixels high by 7,000 wide or so) so when you scale it down to almost 1/10th it looks much nicer, haha. >.>

So beautiful..
I love the "glowing" edges of all the drapery(?)! Not to mention the hair looks terrific! The hints of pink really accent the picture, too. ;A;
Wonderful piece!

Thank you so much! Hair is definitely my weak point so I am really glad that you like it. I had fun doing the glowing embroidery too, hehe.

You're very welcome! I wouldn't be able to tell it's you're weak point, from what I see here. I don't exactly know how to get the glowing effect on stuff... How do you do it? x'D

It's pretty easy, what I did. I took a big brush and painted a thick streak of solid green across the bottom portion of the cloth, then did a gaussian blur filter set really high, like 600 pixels, and then set the layer mode to I think overlay or soft light, I don't remember. Then I did it again on a new layer with a smaller brush just along the fring of the cloth. The actual embroidery part is nothing special, just a very pale green color sketched in and left solid, haha.

Even if it sounds easy, I'm pretty sure it's actually really hard for an amateur like myself!
But I think I understand what you did... I think. "orz
Thanks, I'll try to remember.
