this is so awesome and helpful!!! i love the way you did the shading and the steps you took....it makes so much sense!! what did you use to fill in the horse though??? like over the shading?? and what did you use for the shading??? do you mind if i attempt drawing this......so i can get a feel for the shading and where to put it??? i just thought i should ask first since you did so good on it i dont want you to think i m copying you or something..

Mostly this one was done in prisma colored pencil. I used a mixture of colors. Off the top of my head, i believe the Steal blue was used primarly for the body..howver i believe this is one of the colors prisma has discontinued.

on top of my pencils i like to add fabercastal brush markers to give it a smoother look. Also when i varnish it (gloss) it lookes better over the markers, then just the pencils.

yap, done in colored pencils. I don't used the blending stumps. I own them, but I never use them. I don't like the flatness they give me grahite work, and I have no use for them in colored pencils. I blend by building up my layers and burnishing color onto color. I'd recommend getting a beginers color pencil book. I have many that can be used as a good reference. You seal it with a Fixitive that comes is Matte (dull) or glossy..im not sure if it comes in semi-matte since i always use Gloss over my colord pencils. I like the 'printed on' finish it gives to the image, speically if i don't color the entire paper.

o my gosh!! it is so good and smooth! what do you mean by building up layers and burnishing them? i will definitely try to find one of those. i have the prismacolor fixitive matte on my charcoal drawings so they dont smear. by gloss your drawings you mean with the fixitive? thanks so much again with helping me out with your artist tips.

sorry for the delayed response, my comptuer is finally moved ina nd hooked up. burnishing is...a colored pencil technical term. It's basically laying one color on top of another color, you can press hard, light, or what not. I believe the term calls for pressing hard and over lapping the colors. It's color mixing for colored pencils. Since you can't mix them like paint. And yeha, I mean the glossy fixitive, it give it a nice printed on appearence to the paper.

oh....cool!! thanks so much for taking the time to give me advice and explain all those technical terms that artists use!!!! i recently used a glossy fixative in art class to make an oil pastel drawing shiny and since the paint thinner didnt keep it from smudging i used that and i will probably put it on dA after x-mas break....thanks again!!!!!!!!!!
