First thing to pop into my mind was St George and the Dragon. It's a very nice piece of art. Very well done.

This is exactly how I feel when I win a game of chess. 
Anyway, you did a great job with this piece, and I think the cape of the chess board is an awesome touch.

i'm not sophisticated in any way to make a critique..but the title adds a great joke to the already EPIC freeze time before the erm "fish" takes it's last thought before it becomes diner..and this is what i call "the deadliest catch" not that fake show ...this is just great

Well, for me and any D&D player, the red dragon a symbol of what would be I guess in my opinion a blatantly overly emotional symbol.On top of that you have this white knight, in western culture of course being enough of a symbol of the 'good' noble prince riding in to save whatever is the victim du jour; all the while caped in black and white checkers with the same plume coming out of his helmet. For me the cloak evokes images of chess, a rather heavily logical game. his shield is spattered with blood. Feathers or bits of cotton are flying off his previously unmarred armour. all of which is on a setting or rising sky.
The picture seems to me to be a war between logic and emotion. It's a beautiful piece.

Hmm, I guess I haven't thought of it this way. True, the idea was to paint a knight with a checkered pattern slaying a dragon, so I could name it "Checkmate". Both protagonists are meant to be archetypes but the rest is kept for your imagination and I'm glad it works. Thank you.
