This is really great stuff. I loved the original "Screamers" film, and I saw this DVD at the local store, and I've thought about picking it up. Was all your concept work used in the film?

Like everything in this business it's a marriage of ideas between the creatives and the builders. What's cool, what's affordable, what do we have access to, etc. A lot of material was translated, but nowhere near all of it. My job is about throwing of bunch of competing concepts up and see what sticks. So there are elements from ships and wardrobe, creature, storyboards and set design in the final cut, but also an amalgamation of other studios/departments input. It's very refreshing! The producer forgot to put me in the credits, an almost clockwork regularity on larger productions, but I'm listed on IMDB at least.

Hmmm, I can imagine that, after some of the re-drawing and other revisions I've made to ideas and pages I've drawn. Sorry they forgot to put you in the credits. I was listed as creator of some creature design for a movie that was supposed to be made, but I don't think it ever was. So I dunno if I'm still on IMDb, either. Hahaha...
How did you get into movie concept art?

Been a storyboarder for years now. When you're inside the foxhole you try your hand at other things. And I was the first person hired at the pre-pro stage so I didn't have any limits on what I could do. A rarity, and a blessing at the same time. Director was an awesome cat, too.

Very cool. I'd love to try to get into it, but I have no idea how to go about it. :-S

Really cool stuff, Joh! The lower ship kinda reminds me of one of the weapons from the Halo games.
