(The girls decide what to do .)

Holly and Xiulan get to the top of the stairs and Holly leads her girlfriend towards her room. "I just need to let Kate know about us coming over, before I forget," she explains and picks up her phone.

"There! All sorted. Kate says it's okay for us to go over at about twelve," she says as she reads the reply from her sister. "You'll totally love Oliver. He's a gorgeous little boy!"

"Hehe! I am very looking forward to seeing him!" Xiulan says.

"Come on, let's get this bathtub filled," Holly says and gently pushes Xiulan back out of her room and into the bathroom.

"Good, plenty of towels," Holly notes as she checks the towel rail. She pulls her nightdress over her head and drops it to the floor then leans over the bathtub and turns the taps to start the water flowing. Xiulan follows suit, removing the Gulliver Planet tee that she seems to have grown quite a fondness for and her underpants, throwing them on top of Holly's nightdress.

"Should I lock the door?" she asks as she and Holly stand waiting for the tub to fill.

"Uh... apart from us, there's only Mum in the house right now. Would you be bothered if Mum walked in accidentally? I wouldn't be. But if you feel more comfortable doing that then, yeah, go for it!" Holly replies in a take-it-or-leave-it manner. She looks thoughtful for a moment and then turns back to Xiulan. "However... if we're going to keep our... um... relationship a secret for now, maybe it would be better to lock the door in case Mum does come in at the wrong time. Yeah, probably better if you lock it!"

Xiulan goes to the door and turns the locking mechanism, securing their privacy. She returns to the bathtub and looks in, seeing how far the water has come up. Holly, meanwhile, has gone over to a shelf where a collection of shower gels and liquid soaps are sitting. "Should we put some smellies in, or just leave it as clear water?" she asks Xiulan.

"I need to have a good clean, Holly. I am feeling the sweat from today's heat and also from the night-time. I think you are in the same way as me so some soaps will help clean us and make us smell good again," Xiulan says, lifting an arm to sample what her armpits are currently like. "Yes, definitely do that for us, please!" she adds hastily.

Holly chooses a bottle of liquid bath soap and pours a small amount into the tub, returning the container to its shelf when she sees the water beginning to form a modest froth. As she does this, Xiulan unties the fastening keeping her hair up. She lets it down and Holly turns to stare at a Xiulan she has never seen before. "You look awesome with your hair down, Xiu! Wow! I can't remember seeing you like that before, not even after games or swimming lessons in the changing room. You should wear it loose more often, it really suits you!"

Xiulan lowers her eyes, blushing at Holly's praise. "It gets in my way so I wear it up when I am at school and other times also. But it has been tied up for over a day now without a stop and my head is starting to hurt from this. But do you think I should keep it down more?"

"Oh, definitely!" Holly replies enthusiastically. "You look so pretty. Well, I mean, even more pretty than usual."

She takes a glance at the water level in the bathtub and leans over to turn off the tap "Come on! Let's get in and get clean, smelly girl!" she laughs and slaps Xiulan playfully on the backside before climbing into the bathtub.

Xiulan follows her and clambers in. She turns to face Holly, who has removed her glasses and placed them on the edge of the tub, and sits down.

"Oh! This is so nice! It is the perfect temperature. I can feel myself cooling down already," Xiulan exclaims as she leans back to let the water cover more of her.

"Yeah, it feels good, doesn't it?" Holly agrees.

"Holly... will you tell me the joke about the soap? You said it was silly and maybe not even funny but I want to hear your jokes anyway. Please?" Xiulan pleads.

Holly lets out a little laugh. "Oh, it's not funny, trust me. You've probably built it up now so it'll never ever be as funny as you're expecting even if it's the best joke in the world!"

"Okay but... puh-lease?" Xiulan pouts and gives Holly her best cute-puppy-dog face.

"Fine, fine! But be prepared to go 'Huh? What?' followed by disappointment." Holly says, relenting to her girlfriend's irresistible expression. "I heard it like this... So, right, there's these two nuns... I heard it as nuns because nuns in this situation is a funny idea... and they're in the bath together. Don't ask me why, they just are. So anyway, one nun turns to the other and she says, 'Where's the soap?' And the other one says, 'Yes, it does.'"

There is a long silence as Xiulan furrows her brow in bewilderment and Holly can't help but smile at the out-of-focus-without-her-glasses picture of confusion in front of her.

After a few more seconds, Xiulan looks back at Holly. "I do not get it," she says, shaking her head.

"You probably will later. Like, tonight, you'll be in bed and suddenly, just before you fall asleep, you'll get it. If you don't I'll explain it to you at school tomorrow. But explaining a joke, especially a lame one like that, kills it dead, so I hope you work it out for yourself before then," Holly explains.

Xiulan puts her head back and closes her eyes. "Okay. Tomorrow you will explain. This is super nice, Holly! Cooling and refreshing and very pleasurable. I will lie back for a little moment and close my eyes and feel like I am in a heaven with you beside me." She lifts her elbows onto the edges of the bathtub and allows herself to slide further into the water, feeling like she has indeed entered a heavenly place.

Holly continues watching her girlfriend, enjoying every minute of seeing how beautiful she is. She can't see specific details without her glasses but she can still make out the fantastic outline of Xiulan stretching out in front of her. Holly also thinks about the irony of Ella getting a sick thrill from threatening Xiulan and imagining that she has successfully terrorized this shy, quiet girl from Hong Kong, yet here is that supposed victim, blissfully relaxed, and being admired and adored by someone who now considers her the most beautiful thing the world has to offer.

And while I still think you're a vile creature, Ella, I will always feel a weird kind of gratitude to you for giving Xiu and me the chance to have all these wonderful moments together. If only you knew what happiness you've brought us! It would make you sick, I'll bet.
