Description ....just one more.

Edit: Etymology at work again. Biscuit/Cookie, both are the same thing, but the Brits get their name for it from Latin, by way of Middle French ("bescuit"), while the Americans get their name for it from the Dutch ("koekie").

I'm poor, I usually buy the off brand knock offs.Β  But occasionally, I like the real thing.Β  I bought some honest to god Oreo brand cookies the other week for the first time in a few years.Β Β

They barely lasted an afternoon.Β Β  It was terrible.Β Β

Did you know that Hydrox cookies came before Oreos, yet they got branded as the knockoff?

Jeeze really? They must've been pushed under the carpet pretty fast, Oreo's have been around since 1912. Your right though,Β Hydrox has been around since 1908 and inspired Oreo.

I did not in fact.Β  It happens a lot though in branding wars I understand.

There is one generic brand that I like. I forget if it's Hotkiss ( sounds strange, I know. ) These don't taste like vegetable shortening. To be honest, I'd take them over Oreos any day. O_o

Whilst working at my local grocery store, I was stocking the shelves with, wait for it... Oreos! A small child and her mother walk behind me. The mother asks if Oreos would work for the party. The child responds by saying that she hates oreos now because they have cocaine in them. So I turn around, completely catching them by surprise, and engaging them in a lengthy discussion so as to educate the girl on what the article actually said, not what her ignorant little mind thought it said. I was just disappointed that that was the little girl's opinion and the mother didn't try to find out if it were true or not, but rather still offered to buy the Oreos even after hearing her daughter's argument against them (just before I jumped into the conversation). Clearly the mother was smart enough to see her daughter's belief as being false, but she didn't try to correct it. And this was all the fault of the misinterpreted data presented by "trustworthy" media sources. And this comment ran WAY longer than I thought it would.

I tried to eat some oreos a few months back, and compared it to the time BEFORE that, annnnd the recipe has gone bad. I mean: SERIOUSLY messed up the recipe, by which only 6 of the tiny oreo cookies/biscuits, had me goin to the bathroom 3 hours later, and having to take a book, and used over half of a roll of toilet paper...Β

Whereas the time before, 3 years ago, i ate more than half of the container and didn't need to take a shit until almost midnight, from snackin on the pack all afternoon.

Hawkbri In reply to metakeru [2013-11-17 20:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it was the cause. I am fairly big candy and cookie trier. I will try any cookie, fresh baked or bought at the grocery store, and imported or in-trial candies. I was a fan of the Haribo brand years before it became popular. Hell, i tried out the early 2000's style of HAPPY COLA! And you would not believe how many bags of haribo i could eat before i even got CLOSE to getting sick... which was about 20+ bags in a single day... of the medium sized bags, the ones meant for 2-5 people...

I dont get the fuss about these cookies. I was never really interested in them, until last week when I was shopping I decided to buy one package. I ate them with milk like its said on the package and without milk, and there is just nothing special about them. They dont even taste that good... just your ordinary chocolate cookie Oo
