A "Bugger" is someone who commits "Buggery", or anal sex [sodomy], which was illegal in the US until 2003 [and until 2014 if you were in the military]. Buggery [as a crime] now refers to sex with animals.

it's short for "buggary" which means sodomy
but really gets used like "damn it" or "damn you"

It's a term for anal sex from an extremist religious group who believed humanity was the embodiment of sin. So they avoided reproducing in order to try and die out so they would go to heaven. These days it's just a mild swear or insult.

Bugger is basically the British term for a light swear. Meaning "Damn" or something if I recall correctly.

Another weird word is "fanny", which refers to the vulva (just like "pussy" when you're not talking about cats), but is also a name. To be fair, I'm not sure it's used as a name much outside of French-speaking countries right now, but it's in some classic British children's novels and in case law!

It's more complicated than that.. it can also be a swear-word you use when resigned to your fate... like.. there you are, with 30 tons of flaming 18-wheeler screaming towards you and no way out.. so you stand there and say "Oh. Bugger."..

But, if you put a bit more emphasis on it, it can be really vicious too...
