It's from the game "Portal" by Valve. In one level you get a "companion cube" instead of a regular "Aperture weighted cube".
I'd recommend the game to anyone.

More accurate description would be "first person puzzle game". The only gun you've got allows you to fire two different portals. So for example you can fire a portal on the floor in front of you, and another portal far away in the ceiling, etc.
