Description
I uploaded this a while back on Instagram but felt I needed to put it here because it was definitely necessary.Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) came out when I was a huge horse fan and I was very happy for that. This film has such a sweet and lovely story about how a wild and free creature would find that his freedom wasn't worth more than a human friend he had come to cherish and trust. I watched this at least a billion times over growing up and still do. I will always look back at this movie as I grow up.
How to Train Your Dragon (2010) premiered when I loved legends and myths so I had to see it without any second thoughts. When I first saw it, I saw the same story of friendship as in Spirit and knew this movie would be worth every second. The parallels were there, though subtle, but I loved seeing them.
I could never love anything more than seeing a story of an amazing friendship strengthen even with the odds stacked against them. And I could never enjoy a romantic film the way I cherish a tale of two friends fighting for a bond that would transcend all life and time because of the hardships they endured together. I could never love one of these more than the other, and the same goes for the quality of how the story is told.
DW deserves so much appreciation for the animation, details, original and beautiful soundtracks, characters of Spirit, Little Creek, Hiccup and Toothless and so much more than it would take too long to list them all. But I will always cherish these two stories the most.
Thank you DreamWorks for these two movies.

Probably; seems from the beginning their mission was to mimic whatever Disney was doing.
Except for Shrek; that came out of nowhere.

Actually, they didn't mimic Disney at all. This was from their own movies.
Shrek was supposed to break the norm and the sequel did that

No I mean that from the beginning, they were studying everything Disney ever did and trying to closely resemble them in style, story, characters, artwork, etc. it's probably why Dreamworks has succeeded where so many Disney competitors failed.
It's not surprising they would have picked up Easter Egging and Animation Reuse as well.

Well, yes. But while that is all true, this particular instance was Dreamworks on its own. Every animation company reuses footage at some point. Especially Disney, who recycles so much old footage and outline material. I just wish Dreamworks could be a bit more on top with the larger audience with how advanced their technology and methods are
