The Pershing was a heavy in name only. It was more a large medium than a true heavy tank.

yeah but it's the closest thing to a heavy tank that the US could make due to their tank destroyer Doctrine

The U.S. tank doctrine was one of infantry support, not tank destroying. That's why there were separate TD units. However, if the American brass copied the Germans with what they did with tank units, then we might have had more success. If we had not just seperate tank divisions but tank armies, with effective guns like the 17-lber that could defeat late-war German armor such as the Panther, the war might have been slightly different in the end.
