Hitmonlee are in the same family of Hitmonchan.
They have been selectively bred for hundreds of years for a special type of fighting. this happens to be a style similar to Karate, Tae Kwon Do and kick boxing.

They are extremely agile and can move very fast around opponents. They have protective pads on their arms and legs to protect against damage within battle. The pads are made of hardened skin that has build up in rolls across its skin.
For further protection their neck muscles have become increasingly larger over years of breeding to the point where its head almost blends into its body, however this has become a great advantage for it as they have no chance of damage to the neck like whiplash.

It has dark rings around its eyes because it has sensitive pupils. A side effect of cross breeding and selective breeding is while some attributes are heightened, some are weakened. though its muscles have improved its eye sight has not, and became very sensitive to the sun. The dark rings act as a natural pair of sunglasses.

It almost looks like it has no mouth but really it just has a very small mouth. It doesn't eat much solid food as again years of feeding them protean smoothies have taken their tole and their mouths have gotten smaller, another reason why they are so dependent on humans and cannot fend for themselves.
