Story:
Tommy had to stand on his toes to place the saddle on the bay horse. His coat was shining from all the grooming and he couldn’t get more ready for the dressage class. Russell came out from the trailer, just pulling on his gloves. “He looks great, you’ve done a good job getting him ready” Russel praised, giving Popart a pet on the neck. “I’ve developed a wonderful skill at making horses shine” Tommy grinned a bit. While at Wedgewood he hadn’t gotten to spend much time on his true passion, horse racing. And he never really got into the other disciplines, at least not seriously. That left him with a lot of extra time to groom horses and clean tack, which was also his main job at the stable.
“You know, I looked over the rules for the event and… You know you aren’t allowed to use double bits right?” he fastened the girth and straightened up, looking curiously at Russell. The taller man just sighed a bit. “I know, we didn’t qualify for the highest class” he rolled his eyes a bit, like that was just stupid. Pff how could they not have qualified? “He works a lot better with a double bit in competitions. And if that means I will get some penalty points, then I’ll just have to get those” he shook his head like the whole thing was a joke, not too pleased with being told what equipment he could and could not use.

Tommy just nodded and turned his head away so Russell wouldn’t see his smile. He knew Russell had been competing in some high level classes back in England with Popart, and probably considered himself at a different level than most of the staff at Wedgewood, but sometimes his attitude was just too funny for the boy who grew up in the country, far away from the big show stables.

“By the way” Russell said as he cleaned Poparts eyes and nose with a clean cloth. “Have you looked for another place to work?” Tommys head snapped back up, and he nodded. “yees, I’ve been looking around a bit. I heard a stable in Austria was looking for staff. Imperial Stables, you’ve heard of it?” he said and just received an expression from Russell like ‘who hadn’t heard or that?’. “Have you talked to them yet?” Russell wondered, thinking it would probably be good for Tommys career if they accepted him. Atleast he would go somewhere else than where he would go if he stayed at Wedgewood. “Noo…” he shook his head. “Maybe I can send an e-mail or something? I don’t really know what do write… I don’t have much experience, what it they don’t want me at all?” he took a deep breath, feeling nervous just thinking about contacting them.

Russell just laughed and petted his shoulder. “Don’t worry, it’s always nerve wracking to apply for a job. When we get back I’ll help you write an e-mail to them, and write your CV” he said and loosened Popart from the trailer. “Now I will go ride” he gestured to Tommy to hold the saddle on the other side as he sat up, and then rode off to the arena, hoping it would go better this time than the Grand Prix last year.
