Sometimes simplicity is the best way to go for super form designs. Simple, yet still dramatic.
It's why a shit ton of people went nuts over Goku's first transformation into a Super Saiyan. His hair went spiky gold and nothing else.
With Rainbow Power, though, Hasbro is garnering the opposite reaction. By going way over-the-top with the rainbows, bigger-than-necessary manes, and way too many cutie marks, a lot of people and I think it's way too overcluttered, boring, and girly, not to mention going out of character for Rarity.
