Haha, keep in mind, I drew this back around seasons 9/10, and he certainly wasn't very badass then..

As for season 11...the jury's still out. He's a lot more flustered/loutish than he was in Recovery One/Reconstruction....but then again, he has things to be flustered/loutish about. I do hope the original sarcasm/wit/badassery comes through eventually, though.

No, your right.

Season's 9/10 he was more childish, which I think made for a better character story. One of my favorite bits of the last few seasons has been watching the characters we know become the way they are, and seeing what prompted their changes. For example, Wash's contempt for command made sense when they revealed his back story with Epsilon, but I thought it was made even better/sadder when they showed how green and naive he was before the incident. Even in the present-day sections of the story, he was kind of forced back into that role by Carolina and her leadership role, even to the point where he snapped towards the end of the season.

Now that the story is back in the present and the reminders of his rough past (Carolina/Church) are gone, I would suspect the core of his character, (namely, the by-the-book, "annoyed at the reds/blues" Wash we grew to love in Reconstruction) will be coming back. But thats just a guess. Only real support I have for that is what I've seen in S11E2 between him and Tucker, discussing the command structure, and to a lesser extent, his exchange with Sarge in E1.

But who knows, I think it looks like its shaping up to be a great season. Thoughts on the premise (shipwrecked)?

True. I understand that him being more naive/childish was supposed to make it more meaningful when he got Epsilon and lost it all. It was just....hard as a Wash fan to see him be that lame for that long, and not even get the satisfaction of watching that version of him die. Once he woke up after the incident, nothing had really changed. He listened to North and South bicker and then we never saw him again. That's not payoff.

That's an interesting way to look at it. That she pseudo-forced him into a role he no longer fits because of how he's changed.
I think there was a LOT more he could have said to Carolina when he did stand up to her. He of all people knew how horrible the Director was/how much he deserved it, but also how self-destructive/ultimately futile revenge/hatred can be (see seasons 6 and 8...) He really could have really gotten on her level and related with her to tell her how flawed the whole plot was. And all he came up with was "you're being mean to my friends stop it." Seriously?
Okay sorry rant over XD;

I hope so. It's his sharp-tongue I miss most XD
It is too early to tell at this point, the season is still getting into the swing of things, but I'm encouraged by what we've seen so far.

I have high hopes for this season, to be sure ^^

I like it. It's a good premise: the fact that supplies/food are limited, or even considered, is interesting. And that they're doing what they've always done, only now it's not because it's "their job."
It seems like delaying the inevitable, too. What happens if/when they do get rescued/escape? What lives do they live then? Would they stay together if given the chance to go their separate ways?
Has a lot of potential.

I didn't realize how much of a missed opportunity Wash's outburst was until you brought it up. Your right, there was alot of potential for someone of Wash's background to put Carolina in her place, and it pains me that that wasn't taken advantage of. Thanks for ranting about that

As for the "inevitable", I think that this might become a theme later on in the season, when help is coming and they have to think about their lives afterwards. I think in the first bit of the series we'll see some issues with rationing, maybe the reds getting frustrated or upgrading their base to ridiculous preportions (see Holoroom), maybe even a leadership conflict between Wash and blue team.

That's my assumption, too. First half is gonna be about wanting to be rescued from their box canyon, second half is gonna be about wanting to go back. Something along those lines, maybe..

Not gonna lie I'm really liking the dynamic Wash and Tucker are growing. Wash is not entirely an asshole and Tucker is not entirely a workshite, but their both just enough to piss the other off XD
I want to see the two of them spar. Either for practice/playfight or for reals, I want that to happen XD

No worries! Wash is probably in my top 3 fav characters, can't get enough of him. And it's always a pleasure to be able to talk about different viewer's interpretations of the show. You're right, Tucker-Wash is starting to look good. Also, Ep.3 shows how Caboose has been taking Church's absence, and that looks very promising too.

Agreed, although I put most of his scars on the rest of his body- facial injuries seem less common/more severe to me I will say, in my headcanon he does have a large one at the base of his skull from the Epsilon Incident, it's just usually covered up with his hair
