Description An image of patience and timing. I was on my stomach for long time as I inched my way closer to these two birds standing on the beach. When one of them flew, my initial reaction was to retreat and look for a new opportunity...but I could tell that something was up. The female was acting a bit strange...agitated...but not by my presence. Within a couple minutes the male returned with a fish as a present.

Thanks for telling me!
I only have a 300mm, so I would have to get too close to the birds to take pictures like this.
Love this capture!!!

I'm glad your efforts had no ill effect on the pairing of these birds, as they are endangered in many areas. Many people don't know about Least Terns, so your photograph can inspire and educate them which is great!

I love this shot! It's beautiful!

I love the shallow DOF which puts the attention to the two sterns. And the action of the stern giving the fish to the female is lovely, it really is a nice photo telling a tale. And the colours are incredible.

I wonder, what kind of gear do you use?

Merel

Right now the setup is Canon 5D MII and a 500mm f/4...it hasn't always been so, but over time the upgrades paid for themselves!
