Description Introduction
I'm back, I finally got my internet back, though not in time for the latest episode, and the 100th episode at that, bummer, well, better late than never I suppose. Time for Slice of Life, aka the fandom episode.

Synopsis
We start off in with, Cranky and Matilda, well that's an unusual start, they're getting married except it turns out that the invitations they sent were mistakenly marked for today instead of tomorrow, thus Matilda gets in a panic and goes off to try and get everything ready by today. Cranky Doodle Donkey then delivers a complaint to the one who was in
charge of the invitations, Derpy and-holy crap did she just talk?! She did she did just talk! And her first word in a long time is muffin, okay DHX is clearly using the fans ideas, and I'm okay with that. And intro.

Derpy laments at a restaurant about how she wishes she could go back in time and fix this. The doctor over hears her and, no way, she speaks too, and he takes her to his lab and talks about how he's been working on a way to go back in time while Derpy fools around with his stuff. Wow, the're really going all the way with following the fandoms popular
stories. Derpy even notices some flameless fireworks that'll be important later. Doctor who asking Derpy what the problem is realizes that he doesn't have a suit for the wedding today rushes off to Rarity, only she isn't home. And Vinyl?! Oh my god any more of this and I'll die of fangasm overload! He ask Vinyl if she's seen Rarity and she leads him to a bowling ally, okay. The Doctor then notices those three guys in suits, they're suits actually look pretty good so he ask them if they could get his suit tailored, they agree so long as he bowls with them in the finals since their fourth player didn't show.

We see that the main six are actually occupied stopping some kind of bug bear, and looks like Octavia also gets her own role, dialogue and everything. She's having trouble figuring out what to play for the wedding. Does Octavia feel kinda Rarity-ish or is it just me. Matilda also hires Amethyst star as the wedding planner since Twilight is occupied with the bug bear. Derpy is now on a search for flowers as Matilda's having come in yet. And next we have, Lyra and Bonbon, okay, I swear if they canonize their lesbianism, oh, their just best friends, thank you DHX, thank you for not going that route, not that you would have been allowed to anyway given your target demographic! They're setting up the decorations for
the wedding and, Bonbon is a secret agent with a fake name, and a history with that bug bear the main six are fighting okay I did not see that coming. Apparently Lyra was clueless on the whole secret agent thing and starts calling their friendship into question but Bonbon assures her that their friendship isn't a lie and that shy only kept it a secret for Lyra's protection, Bonbon then goes out the window with sunglasses and blends in with a crowd.

Back with the Doctor Derpy interrupts their game telling him that she can use his flameless fireworks as flowers for the wedding. The Doctor goes after Derpy in worry that the fireworks could go off at any moment and leaves the three bowlers to lose. Meanwhile Matilda is getting her mane done at the spa and meets an old friend of Cranky Doodle Donkey, Steven Magnet, the sea serpent from the pilot episode, and thus another bit of continuity. After a nice little talk Matilda starts to calm down as what matters is them staying together after the wedding and Steven does a terrible job of being supportive, nice going.

We then go to Vinyl and holy shit Vinyl and Octavia do live together! Octavia is still trying to find some music for the wedding, Vinyl joins in and they actually make a song together, Octavia then notices it's almost time for the wedding so the two drive out through Ponyville on Vinyl's stereo set, just role with it, while picking up a couple of guest along the way and getting everyone to the wedding. Also I never pegged Gummy as the philosophical type.Celestia and Luna are arguing, so Celestia does just put on a regal face for the ponies, Shining Armor is shedding some more liquid pride, and Derpy has the flameless fireworks flowers set up and does she have quite the unusual laugh. Bonbon comes in announcing that the bug bear has been defeated and she and Lyra are friends again, though I'm sure people will look more deeply into it than they should, dammit why can't anyone just accept a friendly hug as just that, a friendly hug. The Doctor comes with just a scarf asking Derpy how he looks and is great with a compliment and a hug, okay now that's my kinda ship! Also Cranky Doodle Donkey lost his hair again, but Steven Magnet fixes it by fashioning a wig out of his mustache cut off with one of his scales, and my continuity meter just exploded! And everyone is ready for the wedding, except the main six, dammit Derpy! The Mayor then says her speach and pronounces them husband and wife, as they seal it with a kiss the flameless fireworks go off and the Doctor finally figures out that it's love that ignites them, now that's just silly. And we end on the main six outside acknowledged how lucky they are to live in Ponyville and they all lived happily ever after. Except on thing, there's a freaking changeling in there, are the really gonna just ignore one of the succubuses that attacked Canterlot, anyone?

Final verdict
Okay, am I being too generous to this show because wow just wow! This isn't just another awesome episode, this is a love letter to the fans! I am shocked at just how much they went into using all sorts of ideas that the fans came up with. Derpy being friends with the Doctor, the Doctor is well, more and more like the Doctor that the fans compare him too. Oh and Derpy finally has that speaking restraint removed, about time! Lyra and Bonbon best friends but thank god they didn't make them lesbians or Lyra obsessed with humans. And I think I may have read some stories about Bonbon living some kind of secret life. Vinyl and Octavia do live together! The show really should extend its roster and allow these guys to have their own stories, since the main six are pretty much already at their peak. Sure there may not really be any morals to learn at least as far as I can see but morals aren't always needed to achieve greatness. I officially dub this the season's new best episode. Great job M.A. Larson, I can see why you're so popular with the fandom. The really great thing about this episode is that it shows that we do indeed matter! So far I'm seeing no signs of franchise fatique, if anything this show is becoming more and more awesome, if this keeps up season 4 may end up being bumped down to second place.

Check out this video I made which not only pays tribute to this episode, but also to a good friend of mine who passed away this year:

"Now you get out there and marry that donkey!" might be the most awkward thing said in a cartoon this decade.

To be honest... I found this episode bad; not to terrible levels, but sub-par at best. I found the plot to be broken, with the main plot being halted at times to shove in unrelated scenes with fan service in them. I also found some events, like the Bon-Bon secret agent scenario and, less so with, the dub step to be completely out of place for the main plot at hand and just there for... fan service. I also found the ending, being the Vinyl scratch stereo car thing, to be rushed; people say it's a representation of the chaos the fandom shows, but there had to be better ways to show this than making the ending seem so rushed.

Personally, I didn't like the humor as well... I guess it's just not my taste of comedy. I did chuckle at a few scenes with Ditzy/Derpy, but that was it; I just stared at it blankly.

As a special... I can't count this as one. I know it's supposed to be a love letter to the fans, but it was done in such a boring and typical way. He could have used the fandom to his advantage and make a breathtaking episode, while still being hilarious and keeping both the bronies and non-brony fans happy. We could have gotten a Time Travel story with Dr. Whooves, or, I guess, an Alice in Wonderland parody with music and Vinyl Scratch... or just something out of the ordinary for FIM. This episode's story, the wedding plot, was done like another typical FIM story; set in Ponyville with next to nothing going on, and that bee thing is not an out of the ordinary thing for the series. Heck, I didn't see anything special done in the episode, minus background characters being the star... which isn't very special really.

Overall, I just saw this "special" as a joke and a let down; the plot wasn't even flowing right for cripes sake. I also think that the staff if forgetting the original audience of young girls (while not making the others hurt themselves). If this WAS supposed to be a joke, I didn't find this funny at all... I actually would feel insulted.

You may think I hate FIM, but I don't... I'm just concerned.

I'm honestly not surprised to find some that hate this episode. Heck even Pinkie Pride has some haters out there somewhere.

Oh... that's good... I thought there would be a massive argument like "HOW COULD HATE THIS EPISODE; IT'S PERFECT!!!!!!!" Well, it probably wouldn't be like that, but I thought something like that.

I found this episode to be alright. I like to think of it more as a lower deck episode. It's about the action that goes on behind the scenes rather than the super exciting stuff in the front. The bugbear attack was, like its namesake, just another annoyance, to the point where the Ponies aren't too concerned. It was just "A Slice of Life" in Ponyville: The story of the bit parts. For what it was about I think it did its job just fine.

Well I don't find it a good special.

Here's a question, what would the intended audience for the show, the young 2-11 (I don't the exact age group) girls, think of it; positive or negative?

Lauren Faust said she intended for young children in general. The idea that the show is for girls has more to do with the stigma of "girls like ponies".

What I see is a young girl's show designed so that anyone that isn't a young girl can somewhat enjoy it. In its essence, mlp is technically for young girls. It doesn't mean that only young girls can do things with it, but it's designed for them.

But that's irrelevant to the topic; what would the kids think?

I don't know. You'd have to ask the kids.

Mitch Larson pulled out a really good episode here. Even without all the fan stuff, the story works on its own for those who don't know about the fan characters.
