Basically, my idea was to have it that the Martians were sent by Ghidorah to weaken Earth after convincing them that Earth was preparing for an invasion of their world. He also knew the Martians would be ill-equipped for any disease and had them send their best warriors in hopes Mars and Earth would be more vulnerable for his own conquest.

You know, kill two birds with one stone.
