Chapter 17
Makeela sat, staring through a window. She was a bit homesick because she missed the water. Henkuiron then began to notice, and asked “What’s wrong, honey? You’re usually not like this. Something wrong?” Makeela said “Just homesick, that’s all. I love my life here with you all, but I do miss the water. It is, after all, where I spent most of my life.” Henkuiron then got an idea, but then said coyly “Well, I wish there was something I could do.” Later, when they made a trip to a mysterious location, with Jeikudon leaving Jeykron in charge, he was covering Makeela’s eyes as they made the final steps to their destination after visibly walking for a while. He uncovered them, and revealed to her the vast ocean in front of them. She smiled wide-eyed and she and Jeikudon, Raikura, and Marrah enjoyed the ocean. Eventually, behind many large sandstones, Jeikudon heard familiar voices. He walked around it, being careful not to be seen, and saw 4 familiar voices. It was Kyomyraxus’ minions, with various parts and mechanisms. Jeikudon and his allies confronted them, with all 4 except Frorigus ready to fight. Frorigus was calm, and simply said “We have no time for this. Well be taking our leave now.” Jeikudon charged them, and with a single hand blast to the ground, throwing up sand to where they were not visible, they and the metal parts were gone. Makeela noticed the prints coming from the water, and decided to dive down deep, looking for whatever they got those mechanical parts from. She resurfaced and brought the rest down. The 4 found an entry underneath the craft and entered the dark abandoned ship. Suddenly, a sensor went off and a strange appendage scanned the one leading the party, which was Jeikudon. A voice then said “Base model acquired, assembling drone.” As many lights sprang to life after centuries of going unused. Many robotic claws came together, assembling and shaping metal pieces, until the final result was locked in a small chamber. “Final activation sequence initiated” the voice called, as bolts of electricity jumped around, electrifying the inside of the chamber. Finally, the voice called out “drone completed”. And the chamber door opened, mist flowed out, and what the assembly line was creating was revealed. It was a mechanical double of Jeikudon, although it wasn’t an exact replica. Out of a nearby control panel, came a hard drive. The voice said “Optional sentience drive ready”, and Jeikudon took it. He said “I think this is meant to go inside it.” Marrah said “What will it do once it awakens? What if it turns on us? It was meant to serve under the ones who wanted to destroy us, after all.” Jeikudon then said “Well, this is meant to give it sentience, so I think it could act non-aggressively. But, if it doesn’t, we reduce it to scrap metal.” A tab lifted on its neck, and Jeikudon, Raikura, Marrah, Makeela, and Henkuiron backed slightly away. It moved slightly, the joints in its neck ratcheting and hissing, as its optics opened. It began to speak, but sounded tired, “Where am I? Who am I? Who are you?” As the 4 looked on in silence, it seemed this mechanical creature was not malevolent.
