The way the tail spikes are positioned reminds me of the Steg from King Kong,

This comment is years late, so this probably doesn't matter anymore, but seeing that no one pointed this out, I think it's worth sharing.
You should understand that nonhuman animals don't really apply to the same gender stereotypes humans have.
If you knew what male Stegosaurs looked like, you will probably realize that making it male would actually make it less badass. Stegosaurs are sexually dimorphic. The common depiction of Stegosaurs you see in movies and games (like Jurassic Park) are always female. Male Stegosaurs look like this...

They had ugly round plates, compared to the bladed plates of females. Males were also slightly smaller and more flamboyantly colored compared to females.

There is still a massive split in the genders in this game dude... 70 to 30 ratio in favor of the males, so there are still a ton of cool male kaiju designs in this game.
Either way, he does in fact say that he hoped that Tian Lung was male because it was badass.

Well, while the Cyborg Dinosaur thing seems like it might have been used in some way, I like that this one is based on a Stegosaurus, as well as the Electric-tip on its Thagomizer. I do like its origin however, travelling parallel Earth's looking to destroy its creators.Β
