Okay how many Godzillas are there at this point and do they all inhabit the same universe?

zomgpingas In reply to DemitriVladMaximov [2016-05-06 07:44:26 +0000 UTC]

Well you have the original one from 1954.

Then the Showa films which ran from 1955 to 1975 star a second Godzilla. (note one of the films takes place in the distant future of 1999). He also finds a another member of his species, a baby called Minlla who he adopts.

The Heisei series, going from 1984 to 1995 ignores all past films except 1954. Again it's a second Godzilla. He also finds another os his species, again a baby and adopts it.

Godzilla 1998 had zero connection but that movie pretty much ignored what made Godzilla, well, Godzilla so fans tend to pretend it doesn't exist and move on.

Millennium Series is a confusing one cause each movie is a direct sequel to 1954, ignoring both the Showa and Heisei films, but each movie is also it's own universe with some being the original Godzilla and others being a second Godzilla. This one I'll break it down.

-Godzilla 2000: No background, we don't know if it's the first or a second. We are given zero background on him, he's just there and people accept it as part of life like a natural disaster.

-Godzilla vs Megaguirus: It's the first one in an alternate reality where they didn't use the Oxygen Destroyer to kill it.

-Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All Out Attack: First one brought back to life by vengeful spirits of those who perished in World War 2 who feel Japan (and the world) needs to be punished for it's war crimes.

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla: It's a second Godzilla, but they retcon the original movie so that instead of the original's body being melted, the bones survive and they use it in construction of a Mechagodzilla codenamed Kiryu. So it's the old Godzilla vs a new one.

Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S.: This one is the oddball of the Millenium movies as it's a sequel to Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla Final Wars: They mention at the beginning this is the same Godzilla that has been plaguing humanity since 1954.

Legendary Godzilla 2014 is a different origin and total reboot, so the attack on Tokyo in the original 1954 film never happened. So pretty much it's it's own thing.

Shin-Gojira or Godzilla Resurgence: Currently we don't know.

Hope that helps.

Shin-Ben In reply to zomgpingas [2016-05-13 03:58:42 +0000 UTC]

All is correct but gmk. They particularly state that it was a second Godzilla in the film. Besides, how is something that is dead with no regeneration going to grow 10 extra meters and gain 10,000 extra tons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zomgpingas In reply to Shin-Ben [2016-05-21 05:21:02 +0000 UTC]

GMK is the first one brought back by ghosts. As for your question about the extra 10 meters and 10,000 extra tons, the same reason why the bones didn't survive in the original film but did in the Kiryu films, retcon.

zomgpingas In reply to Shin-Ben [2016-05-31 02:38:58 +0000 UTC]

I just did. The bones are completely destroyed in the original movie, but in the kiryu films they survived. Different universe, different rules.

Shin-Ben In reply to zomgpingas [2016-05-31 08:42:10 +0000 UTC]

Lets not forget the kiryu universe is "reboots." That's not enough evidence either.

"They survived." How? They were still bones and still dead.

zomgpingas In reply to Shin-Ben [2016-06-10 18:33:14 +0000 UTC]

"Lets not forget the kiryu universe is "reboots.""

You don't say?

.........Hence why I said retcon. :/

"That's not enough evidence either. "

???

It's in the movie. The bones survived. In THAT universe.

"How? They were still bones and still dead."

*Faceplam*

They weren't DESTROYED. I don't mean survive as in alive, I mean survive as in they were vaporized.

zomgpingas In reply to zomgpingas [2016-06-11 22:00:13 +0000 UTC]

"Ok so the kiryu universe the bones were still there."

Correct. Different reality, different rules.

"Yet, in gmk, they were not."

Doesn't matter, GMK is a supernatural movie, Godzilla was brought back by angry ghosts who died in World War 2 to punish Japan for it's war crimes.

"I think you just keep answering yourself over and over."

I'm answering you.

"The fact is, there has always been a second Godzilla."

False, Godzilla vs Megagurias they never use the Oxygen Destroyer. Godzilla: Final Wars it's the original Godzilla. G2K it's left ambiguous.

"No matter what universe."

False, I already named two film universes where it's the original. In millennium films sometimes it's the original, sometimes it's a second one. It depends on the writer of said films. This is not fanon, this is fact.

Death-Driver-5000 In reply to DemitriVladMaximov [2016-05-04 05:06:28 +0000 UTC]

There's the original that inhabits all the universes except for the 2 pictured here (different continuity for Legendary and Shin's a complete reboot), Showa, Heisei, Millennium, the one from the Kiryu movies, GMK, Final Wars, and these 2.

So that's 9. 10 if you count 1998 Godzilla, though in GMK they say he's merely a case of mistaken identity.

He's supposed to look bad, he's a victim of mans destructive ways. A true monster, not something natural. Something you just look at and can say it should not be.
