Yeah, I've been painting a bit, too. Very slowly, though. This is probably going to end up being a series of three paintings because I have a section of wall that needs to be filled, not to mention ideas that need to be put to canvas.Shifting gears now that we're in winter, basically.

Wonderful painting and beautiful color choices! I love how you included realistic and stylized aspects (like the leaf pattern). The atmospheric perspective is striking - the fade from brown to bluish gives it a magical mood.

Thanks. I didn't really think about the leaf/ground cover pattern until you mentioned it... it's something I did in another painting that came out interesting there so I kind of repeated it, but you're right, it is stylized. I've been meaning to try realism in my paintings again at some point just to make sure I'm learning properly, but it's nice to know how people see my balancing act between style and vague realism... thank you for your comment!

That sense of Atmosphere, that truly surreal sense of balance between the real and recognizable and the unreal and unusual, is just magnificent. The stag's a perfect example; the sillhouette is entirely recognizable, yet the way you've rendered it as something like a ghostly shade, with those enigmatic keys hanging from its horns imbues it with a wonderful sense of otherworldly power. Likewise the grass, which almost seems to glow, or the way the slight splotches start to emerge as we follow from the ground to the sky.
Your rendering's also grown even stronger; the colors are all super-sharp and VERY striking, and I again adore how perfectly you have objects begin to fade into the background. The splotching effect works even better this time too, by virtue of the surer hand you seem to have handled them with. They don't lose their eerie sense of randomness, but they also make a more lasting impact on the picture as a whole this time.
And this is going to be part of a SERIES, you say? Joy, joy, joy!
