Description
Falling RocksWell, I think i'm getting better with my space, i'll all of you be the judge of that though. This was a fun piece to do and I learned a lot from it. As you can see it's not another b&w piece, I think i'm done with those for awhile.
But anyway, there are some things in this piece that i'm too sure if I did it right. Like the meteor impacts, they look a little weird. ;/ Oh well though, leave any comments or anything if you wish. They are always appreciated.

Asteroids from `hameed (I haven't got program yet
Other stock from *resurgere
Happy viewing.
Edit: I edited the 'impact' area's on the bigger planet, I added some more asteroids on the right, and had a meteor crash into the planet on the right also.
Edit 2: Added a motion blur to the large asteroid, and lightened up the background a bit.

Ah-ha! That's why your planets are so good; you use Terragen.... I make all mine from scratch in Photoshop... but mine turn out very nicely too, just not wuite as intense as yours, with the asteroids and such...

Actually I don't make my planets in TG, I don't even know how to . Like you, I make mine from scratch

Not bad, I like it a lot. I think that adjusting your planet shadows to have a harder edge would help a little with the illusion of roundness though.

The upper most (burn/impact) on the large planet looks very flat compared to the planet. You have managed apart from that to creat a very nice piece.

Yeah my larger planets tend to look pretty flat cause I don't like to spherize them too much because it destroys the texture. But i'm learning ways around that though

You can really feel the speed and heat of the rocks on impact!

Looks pretty alright. The blurred asteroid in the foreground really bothers me tho, it makes no sense why it should be blurred like that. If youre suppose to blurr it you should atleast have given it a motion blurr rather than a static blurr. The asteroid is moving to be out of focus, correct? Then it shoulden't be blurred like that you se .
Flare could be a bit more powerful to really be pulled off.
Critique is what makes you grow.
Keep it up!

Now that's what I like to hear! Good critique man, thanks for taking the time to notice my flaws.
I thought about giving the flare more 'ower', but I wasn't too sure if it would look right. I'll be fixing the things you mentioned along with some other things soon. Thanks again.

hmm I dont really like your flare in this one.. but the smaller planet on the right is really nice.. really good impact and colors! nice work on that If you'd change the planet texture of the big planet you have a damn fine piece!

I thought about changing the bigger planet, but that was too much work for me at the time.

imo, the ankle of the meteroids isn't 100% right, i guess this is why it looks a bit odd. nonetheless a great piece

Hmm, just realized that.. it's not off by a lot though. I'll fix it pretty soon, thanks for noticing, I don't know why I didn't.

You can make your asteroids with good Ol' Terragen 2TP! but the render time will be incredible >_>
Love this piece, only problem i have is the first big explosion effect/mark looks a bit too much like blood, maybe you should mix in some oranges, and set that layer to overlay? just a suggestion.

I would use TG2, however I don't have the full version so I can only render up to 800x600, and like you said, the render times are ridiculous.

hmm, well the best way i would know of, is just render it untextured, cut it out in photoshop, and then paint over it. that's what i do, also, i make brushes out of them.
