Description
Alright. I'm finally getting my anatomy down and ready. Please, for the love of God, if you have the time, redline my work or suggest new techniques/anatomy references. This took me a good few hours. I figure that I should just keep practicing with these basic ideas and I'll end up getting the hang of it, but... meh.Anywho, redlines and critiques are requested and greatly appreciated ^.=.^

Looks good, much improvement. A few notes though: e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> For the hind leg I noticed that you did a circle for the hip and then a line off that for the thigh, try instead making the thigh and hip one long oval shape, that way it'll look more natural and that weird bump won't be there. The rest of the leg is good though, for references I advise checking out some dogs legs (or cats, either is fine, same basic structure).
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> The foreleg is the same, the shoulder structure on four legged animals is a bit weird and while on people you can get away with a circular shoulder, an oblong oval shape that crosses the chest is best for quadrupedal creatures. For the bicep and tricep muscles notice that the bicep forms a bump when flexed that’s closer to the elbow than the tricep so that they are almost opposites. Also note that when one is flexed the other usually won’t be and that they are situated pretty much flush against each other, so only one line is necessary to delineate the musculature beneath the skin.
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> I won't say the faces you draw are perfect (the Lord knows nobody is perfect
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Smile)"/>), but they are very good. Consider this though: the horns on a dragon are like extended eyebrows rather than spikes, try having it so that the horns come from above the eyes rather than just off the top of the head (though that could just be personal preference). Your eyes are great, but for a reptile, making them a little less rounded is a good idea, with a slitted pupil and slightly narrower eyes he'll look a lot more natural. But round is okay, (probably better with a slitted pupil if you want to convey a warm, caring nature, it's just a suggestion).
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> For the tail, remember gravity. The sketch you’ve got here shows the tail ‘sticking out’ slightly from the body before it curves down. Unless Kalithe is running, the tail will be pulled down pretty much as soon as it has left the body. That said, once it’s reached the bottom of the curve, touched the ground for a bit, it might curl back up again into a sort of sideways ‘C’. Also remember perspective when drawing the tail. The sketch here makes me think that it’s sort of coiled? In which case you’ll need to chuck in some lines to show which side is closer to the viewer; I normally put that along the top of the tail and follow the curve of the shape a bit. And I agree with TurquoiseDrag0n about drawing the tail as a tapering tube, rather than having the tail be much the same thickness until you get to the end.
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> The wings are great, just think of them as arms where the fingers are really long and skinny (the thumb being the little spiky one) and that little fleshy bit between them has grown out to make the membrane. If you think of them like that, you’ll have a more natural-looking muscle structure. Think about the fact that the wings are what gets dragons off the ground, you have really skinny wings (in terms of muscles) and it’s hard to imagine a dragon with thin wing-arms getting off the ground. More muscle to keep them in air. Otherwise good.
e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="10" height="10" alt="
" title="Bullet; Blue"/> Claws. Just look at your own hands, claws on dragons are like fingernails on people. They’re just a bit more round and solid and pointy. They should still come from the top of the toe though, and consider having a little bit of skin that sticks out a bit over the top of the toe where it joins the rest of the finger, just to show that the claw is growing from the finger. And when drawing fingers you need more of a pad underneath the end. Use your fingers as a guide for that, claw on top, pad underneath.
Basically, when drawing dragons use real life references as a guide. Yourself for hands (and even wings to some degree, it’s lots of fun to strike weird poses while learning to draw wings e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Big Grin)"/>). Dogs and cats for most of the anatomy (arms and legs and tails and the like) and if you really want to get technical with the wings a good picture of a bat can be a real help. Depending on the type of feet you want your dragon to have will depend on what you look at for those, I usually give my dragons hands like mine so I get to walk around on my hands and knees while I work out how it all works. But if you have a dog or a cat, pay close attention to how they move, I know I study our neighbours’ dog closely and it’s kind of creepy. And the internet is a good source of material too. Especially for muscle structures and skeletons, do not doubt the power of skeletons, they are so helpful.
I had a lot of trouble getting this stuff into words; I’m more of a visual person after all. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Big Grin)"/> If some of it doesn’t make any sense let me know and I’ll do a quick… uh… help sheet? Or maybe I’ll do a Join.Me session if you want. I would have real trouble learning to draw without images to use as guides too.
Hope this helps, and please don’t take it to heart. I always feel really mean pointing out the things that people could improve on. But I love your art, don’t doubt it (and you did ask for help e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="
(Lick)"/>). I just don’t want to sound mean or stuck up or anything.

Really good, love that you're done sketches for each part of the body. That's always helpful. Try to do some whole body ones too though.

There's a reason why I didn't do a full body picture yet ^.=.^ I'm doing some studies on my own. Don't worry. My next upload will definately show how much it has paid off

That's fair enough. Probably should have realised that the aspect sketches come before the full body ones. Duh!

Personally, I like how the face and eye came out. As for the tail, I agree with you. The way I draw them is kind of like a tapering tube, making sure each curve is complimented by another on the other side of the tail (avoids nastly-looking kinks in the tail). The plates along the top give it an easy, effective 3d look to it, too.
