It's like a WW1 tank and a present day battle tank had a baby - look at those beautiful big treads! Fantastic!

I like the design but aren't the exposed treads risky?

Endy001 In reply to AsBeyondSoWithin [2017-12-20 01:31:11 +0000 UTC]
True. A well placed grenade or IED will detrack it, and with tracks like those, it's going to be a fun time retracking.

That's pretty much the only thing I don't like about it. Everything else is amazing.

Actually, I noticed a Tiger weakness. The driver's viewport, smack dab in the middle, a 90 degree angle.

But the length of the tracks, compared to the main body of the tank, should give it a lot better groundresistance, which in turn should provide improved maneuverability, right? I don't really see this tank in a modern MBT-role, but more in a tankdestroyer-role, just considering it's looks...

True. But again, exposed tracks...

MBTs should be short for less of a silhouette; I thought this was an APC at first.

Not a fan of such exposed treads though.

Same here. An AP round to those top treads would ruin your day.

MelvWolfe In reply to aviation13 [2016-01-04 04:32:54 +0000 UTC]
AP not to much, as it would have to hit a part holding it together, HE on the other hand or just a soldier with an RPG would have an easier time to immobilize it.

Maxathron In reply to MelvWolfe [2015-08-24 05:45:53 +0000 UTC]
Yep. A single shot at a tread and the whole tank is now immobilized, meaning very easy kill for just about anything out there. A walker (unrealistic with "current day" technology) can at least limp off the battlefield. A hovering vehicle can float away (presumably the shot hit the flap or vertical armor). And a 6+ wheeled vehicle can still somewhat roll away.
Looks cool, though!

MelvWolfe In reply to Maxathron [2015-08-24 22:32:12 +0000 UTC]
Yep, which is why modern tanks like the Leopard 2 has atleast some armouring to protect the treads. This one has them exposed with a larger profile.
Now if it was a self propelled Howitzer it wouldn't matter nearly as much. If your arty can be directly engaged by the enemy, then you have done something wrong.

Reminds me of C & C 3: Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath. Looks surprisingly similar to a scorpion tank from the GDI factions

Yeah. Scorpion tank. From COMMAND AND CONQUER 3. It looks pretty similar. Well, in design i mean.

Scorpion is the NOD tank. The GDI one was called predator.

150mm Smoothbore Cannon? How about 150mm Railgun / Ion Cannon? Those should be suit for this furturistic tank.

Just because its a conventional gun doesn't mean it can't equip a futuristic tank.

Infernus9 In reply to Deviator101 [2015-07-16 17:20:48 +0000 UTC]
I never said "can't equip", but little bit unsuit on futuristic tank, as same as 21st century US marine using Napoleonic-era musket.

Deviator101 In reply to Infernus9 [2015-07-17 01:31:50 +0000 UTC]
Railguns aren't as flexible and can only fire straight. More conventional guns can lob there shots. So if you get an opponent in a good hulldown position, then that railgun, particle cannon or whatever becomes useless.

Looks really cool, but I'd have left the front of the treads a hair less exposed. they're really vulnerable.

I think that your art is great but this concept has a serious flaw from a practical field perspective. That much exposed forward facing track simply invites assault and the very last thing a heavy armor unit commander want sto hear is , "Sir we're off the track". Plus the absence of a drive wheel cover allows for debris to ride the track over the top to get jammed under the upper chassis plate.
I realize that this is fiction, just thought I'd drop in a little field experience.
Still, I'd hate to see this big dawg in in my forward scope.
