Description EDIT: This is still getting s but it would be nice to know of anyone actually using this! - gimmie a link if you make an animation using this as reference will ya? I'm interested to see ...also, it'd be great if you linked back to this tutorial so that other people can benefit from it too! ^-^
-----------------------------------
my good friend Cerzz has started to dabble in the wonderful and pain-staking world of animation! So far she's been lookin' mostly at dogs, so I quickly knocked up some thumbnails and threw together this tutorial to try and explain a few things. It only took an hour to put together, so it's not meant to be any conclusive lesson in making the perfect run cycle, more that it's simply intended to illustrate a few things which aren't easy to explain in words. I figured I'd post it up here in case anyone else finds it useful!

I suggest using this only as a guide, as you can see the animation itself is basic and by no means flawless!! the animation should loop automatically (if not, right click, loop) and if it's too small to read any of the text, right click, zoom in.
my tutors would screw if they knew I was workin' on this instead of my school work lol! ... me go bed now

Hope it helps Cerrz

wow this is amazing,i can sure used this in a animation.
I have a question everything is supposed to move right?
So the ears would go up and the tail would move as well right?

sure thing... in animation we'd term the motion for those body parts as "secondary motion", because their motion is pretty much determined by the movement of the primary motion (ie, the main body and limbs) .... tip: always make sure you've got the primary motion sorted out before you start adding in secondary motion like tail and ears

wait then how would you animate this, since i know it won't be that easy to animmate with ms paint.
Okay so is it differnt for each animal or is it pretty much the same?

KatCardy In reply to DarkUmbreon21 [2010-01-09 17:50:05 +0000 UTC]

yeah, you need a program other than ms paint really... the frames (the individual drawings) can even be drawn on paper, but you need a program to put them all together into one animation, like animation shop, or a program where you can animate a drawing straight off like flash (which is what this was made in)... I'm afraid mspaint will be next to useless to you for this. :/
the pattern of legs will work for most animals, but things will change, a domestic cat for example would have less up/down motion, and be more agile (and of course their body shape is very different!)

yeah, animation shop would do it... I know it used to be a free program you got with paint shop pro... but I'm not sure how you'd get about getting that by itself.. - try searching on google for it, maybe? goodluck

How was it like, did you do differnt styles of animation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatCardy In reply to DarkUmbreon21 [2010-01-18 12:56:23 +0000 UTC]

it was fantastic! - 3 of the best years of my life! ... we did indeed study different styles.. as well as different techniques; my only regret is that I was a bit too early to have a go at trying computer animation... I tried stop-motion and different styles of 2D, but didn't get a chance to try CG.

cool.i always wanted to see how my characters would look in 3d.But don't you need a progam for it?

DarkUmbreon21 In reply to KatCardy [2010-01-21 00:03:57 +0000 UTC]

damn...oh well i won't get into that stuff until i get older.
Okay whats the hardest thing to animate?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatCardy In reply to DarkUmbreon21 [2010-01-21 09:36:01 +0000 UTC]

gah... I don't know.. that's a tricky question, I guess it's different for different people! - I suppose anything you find difficult to draw will be tough to animate (since you have to draw it to animate it!) .. human faces probably for me, are among the tricky ones...

DarkUmbreon21 In reply to KatCardy [2010-01-21 23:19:34 +0000 UTC]

i think its pretty hard animating heads going up then going down.
I got pretty much some stuff down.

no, not really.. once I'd drawn the animation frames out it didn't take long to lay out .. mind you, I look at it now and think it could be a lot clearer in it's layout ... I should update this sometime.
