So I was in the process of commissioning someone but couldn't decide between Albion and Sargon, but realized I didn't really have any kind of updated ref of Sargon so was gonna whip up a super quick fullbody of him. As I kept drawing I decided why not just update some of the stuff that has been bothering me? So I did.ΒHere's what I updated from the old ref:
His face - A lot more sturdier and masculine.
"Makeup" - Instead of some kind of funky eyeshadow, it's now moved to under his eyes. They are also no longer makeup, but instead some colorful scales. These scales are purple in his naga form and golden when human or half-human form. They are the only details he is physically unable to retract or hide from his original form, but due to their placement they can easily just pass as makeup instead.
Hairstyle - More of a mane-like appearance, and not so flimsy looking like it was in the beginning.
Jewelry - Updated the chest piece, simplified the wrist braces, added some new hip jewelry with added loincloth and silk.
Hood - The snake hood on his back now has wing-like fingers making it possible for him to expand and fold it to his liking.
Might not have the textures added like the scales on his body but just pretend they're there plz lmao
God I love this updated look tho, Sargon is quickly becoming one of my all-time fave designed OCs of mine *cries*

The extra details are nice; but i think i prefer some of the lines of the previous version? They had a slightly more feminine, almost elvish aesthetic? Still, the technique is lovely and I think he's divine <3 You've done an incredible job!Β

I can see why you'd prefer some bits of the old version, and while i do agree that an elvish feminine look is a good look, it was never the intended look or feel I wanted for his character :0
He's a stern iron-fisted but efficient Emperor who forced himself up through sheer force and willpower to get where he is. I didn't feel the elegant femme look was fitting to his hardy demeanor basically.

Oooh! Context<3 That's fair enough! To be honest, based on his previous images, i thought he seduced and schemed his way to the top, rather than fought his way there. Either way, i think he's gorgeous, and certainly my favourite character of yours! <3

The last two pics of his half form and human form are up-to-date in terms of clothes and general design, so I don't REALLY have a reason to redraw them, buuuut I really should so that I can take the opportunity to touch up on some minor design bits here and there if I find something that feels off .o.Β

However, as the artist; it's entirely your call. I know you love him greatly, so you may not be happy submitting even slightly older art for him as reference material? It's entirely up to you though.Β

Oh it's jsut to update like the slightly changed hairstyle, demeanor and work with his expression a bit more. I feel like the previous pics they don't feel that... expressive? They feel stiff and forced, making the feel of the char off. But there's no like specific things that are wrong =v=

I thought the calm, composed expression was actually very fitting for his character. Not an unexpressive face, but rather a poker face, born of years of scheming and fighting? Either way, i can't wait! <3
