Description
Gylfie as she's portrayed in Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.Those who know me know that these books shaped a lot of me (just look at my username!). I started reading them in my elementary school years and now that I'm a junior in high school, they're still my favorite series. They're beautifully written and filled with character development and rich world building. The movie did a beautiful job plotwise, but I find it was too fast-paced for the development the books held so fast to.
Gylfie has always been my favorite character. So I decided to try and paint her!

I love it, but I feel like I am missing out on aspects of the picture because of the heavily subdued color scheme.

ahh so lovely and soft <3 you always make such pleasing colour schemes and atmospheres to your pictures.
i have yet to see the movie which is really bad of me. i knew it'd be a disappointment, especially being an animation for children it'd be rushed but really sometimes i wish they'd have a board of fans or something to keep the movie marketable AND ok with the fans (because i know that is possible). but hey, i can't complain! i'd known about it since 2005 and the animation was beautiful+got some recognition for the series.
that aside, love this picture and i whole-heartedly agree with your comments. those books were my life growing up and really shaped me too, to the point where i went by Gylfie as a nickname c:

Aww, cute! <3
I agree with you completely about the pacing of the movie, there was no nice character development like the books had and it seemed really rushed. I loved seeing the characters come to life on screen though!

Seeing the movie made me want to reread the books again! <3 I really do think they are masterpieces. Such a rich world! I enjoyed the movie, but it was really fast-paced. Me'n my dad (I read the entire series to him, he loves it, too) went to see it and agreed that if they'd treated it, like, a two or two and a half hour epic like Lord of the Rings, it would have been awesome. Obviously, that wouldn't happen, but wouldn't it be fantastic if it did?!

It would be AMAZING if they did! I understood most of the changes being made to make the series more family-friendly (it's such a mature "children's" series D: ), but I really wanted more development, I'm a sucker for development ;u;
also ~Perolian (I saw the movie with her) and I were really squicked by the Soren/Otulissa implications. And the change of Otulissa to a Short-Eared. But mostly the pairing implications. (we left the theater saying "but. . .but Pelli! And Cleve! and. . . auuuuugh!")

I actually kind of enjoyed what they did with the story - I think making the Pure Ones just in charge of Aggies was smart, I mean they take over Aggies -anyway- in the book - it was just rushed, is all.
Yeah, the SorenxOtulissa kinda rubbed me the wrong way. =/ I didn't notice they changed Otulissa's species, though! That's just... weird.

Yeah, Sarah and I were sitting in the front of the theater going "wait, is that Ruby? Ruby's a short-eared, right? but she doesn't talk like Ruby, she talks like. . . OH NOOOO SPECIES CHAAAANGE"

Oh man, me and my friend were talking about that, and we were especially upset about Otulissa, or, to put it better, the lack thereof. I loved Otulissa in the books, but her character was such a waste in the movie; they introduced her and then she never showed up again. It was a shame, really. ;-;
